How to Create Professional eBooks and Reports is one of a series of easy to implement books available from NathanSegal.org. They represent the necessity for getting things done quickly and easily. As such, this book is short and to the point.
This book is about how to publish your documents using the templates provided. Once you understand how to work with the documentation, you'll be able to create high quality books, ebooks and reports, quickly and easily.
About the Workspace in Word 365
At first glance, MS Word 365 doesn't appear to be much different than earlier versions of Word, except for stylistic differences on the interface. When you set up the program you have an opportunity to change the look and feel of the interface. I chose a simple layout, for the sake of clarity.
In addition to MS Word 365, you will find instructions for MS Word 2007 and MS Word 1997-2003.
There are many templates that come with this course. 50 of them are photographic templates and are a match for this manual.
Another template is created in the 6x9 inch format. This is designed for book publishing and does not include any covers. It is designed to be used with LightningSource, an on-demand publisher. If you choose to use it with another publisher you might have to modify the layout.
A bonus item is the Kindle template. This is designed for the author who wants to publish their works through Amazon. The template itself is one of many steps you will need to take before you can publish to Kindle. In the template are links to the book "Building Your Book for Kindle." There is also a link to the Amazon Kindle instructions for more detail.
The cover is where we'll begin. All the elements on this page are floating, meaning they are easy to move around, including the cover image. While this creates a lot of flexibility, it can also lead to issues if you select the wrong element and move it. If this happens, click on CTRL+Z to undo it.
The cover page contains 3 elements:
An important step to formatting your documents quickly is the use of Styles, briefly mentioned in the above section. When you're on the Home tab in Word 365 you can access several different heading styles in the Styles section. For the purpose of these templates, I've formatted the styles to 3 different headings. That should be enough for most documents.
In this section, you will learn how to add bulleted text to your layouts. This can be in the form of icons, numbers or you can create your own, as you will see in this video.
When working with the templates, you have the ability to change or remove the watermarks. In this section, you will remove the watermark entirely.
In this section, you will learn how to insert images in your documents, what size they need to be for online and printing and how to place them on a page.
Adding a table of contents is the last step you will take after all your content has been added and formatted. You will learn how to add a table of contents, format it and how to update it later on, if/when you update your content.
