Section 1: Menus
Whenever you're installing any Joomla template, the process is ALWAYS the same as listed in this video.
If you are unfamiliar with Joomla, my course, Joomla for absolute beginners explains everything you need to know.
Taking time to create your menus will help users to easily navigate your website and find what they're looking for without getting frustrated.
Section 2: Creating Pages
Your home page is the most important page of your website because that's the first page people will see when they visit your site. It's important to make sure that the most important information you wants users to see is found on the home page.
Creating a clearly define rules page will ensure that people understand how to behave. Without any rules, it's very easy for users to spam your website unknowingly. Your rules need to be very clear so that there is no misunderstand when someone reads them.
For example: "No spamming is allowed. If you post links to any adult websites, your account will be banned forever"
Be clear and direct with your message!
Users will always have questions about your site. The FAQ is a great way to address the most common questions a user might have such as: "How do I add an attachment?".
It's important to add at least 5-10 questions people may ask. The best way to come up with these questions is to think like a new visitor who've never visited your site. Or, you can ask someone to view your site and come up with some questions for you to answer.
Your registration page should be very basic and simple so that people are not frustrated by the process and leave your site. Always use the K.I.S.S (keep it simple silly). The great thing about Joomla is that the registration process is very simple.
A blog is a great way to inform your users and visitors about your website. Here, you can post information such as future plans, changes you've made to improve the site, and how easy it is to use the forum.
Section 3: Frontend Modules
The front end modules will allow you to add more features to enhance the user's experience. So please, go through each module and only add the ones you need. If you don't need a particular module, don't add it.
Attached are the modules you need to install. Make sure that you unzip the folder and install the modules individually.
Providing quality support to your users is a MUST. It's very vital for them to contact you if they need further assistance or support.
Section 4: Settings
The settings allow you to customize the component to your liking. You have the opportunity to go through each item and section to make sure that only the features you need are enabled. This could take a very long time to do because you want to make sure that everything works smoothly for the users.
Section 5: Branding
With so many branding options such as changing the logo, menus, footer, etc, you have the ability to create the way you want your forum to look and feel.
After finishing this course, if you have to watch it over again to get more clarity, then please do. Remember that this is not a race to see how fast you can finish the course. The goal is that after completing the course, you can create a better user experience for your clients and visitors.
