Holy Yoga by Graceful Yoga and Fitness

Holy Yoga is a form of yoga that seeks to bring people closer to Jesus through meditation on scripture, worship music, and yoga poses. Loving God with all our heart, soul, mind, and all our strength (Mark 12:30).

Mission

Our mission is to help people live healthier joyful lives by combining fitness and Jesus. Holy Yoga seeks to bring people to a closer relationship with Christ through yoga, meditation on scripture, and worship.

Class Overview

In today's society we are constantly on the go. We need to find the time to “Be still and know that I am God." (Psalm 46:10) Holy Yoga's intention is to give people the time to slow down and really meditate on God while developing a personal relationship with Him. Classes begin with focus on our God-given breath. (Genesis 1:30; 2:7) The instructor then sets the intention of the class with Scripture reading, and leads the class through yoga postures. The class ends in a final resting pose with prayer and meditation.

Physical Benefits of Holy Yoga: 1 Tim 4:8 “ For while bodily training is of some value, godliness is of value in every way, as it holds promise for the present life and also for the life to come.”

  • 1.Increases Flexibility.
  • 2.Loosens joints and increases lubrication of joints, ligaments, and tendons. This lubrication reduces cell deterioration, slowing the aging process.
  • 3.Helps develop a sense of awareness of our self.
  • 4.Holy Yoga can help many diseases and conditions like: diabetes, blood pressure, digestive disorders, arthritis, chronic fatigue, asthma, back pain, varicose veins and heart conditions.
  • 5.Detoxifies the body, through optimal blood supply, increased metabolism, and helps acquire and maintain a healthy weight.
  • Mental Benefits of Holy Yoga: John 14:27 “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you..” Holy Yoga reduces stress, increases emotional balance, and self-acceptance while building complete reliance on God. The practice of yoga in general can aid in the cure of depression, obsessive compulsive disorders and addictions.
  • Spiritual Benefits of Holy Yoga: 1Thes 5:23 “Now may the God of peace himself sanctify you completely, and may your whole spirit and soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.” The purpose of Holy Yoga is to create a deep, rich, intimate connection with Christ. The physical and mental benefits are amazing, but in Holy Yoga we come together to worship God. It is in Christ that we live and move and have our being. Phil 4:13 “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”
  • Balance: Balance improvement is a major benefit of yoga. Holy Yoga brings sharp physical coordination, and balance left and right, front to back, as well as between high and low aspects of our bodies.
  • Few of us have proper physical alignment and balance; it is normal to be stronger on one side, leaving the other side weaker. Often we can turn our head or twist our spine more in one way. Maybe we can bend forward with ease but have trouble bending backward.
  • Through Holy Yoga you can balance your nervous system, while energizing and relaxing your body. For the true benefits of yoga to take place, both sides of the brain need to be worked out. That is why a lot of the yoga poses concentrate on training and using both sides of the body. Standing poses are really good for rebalancing as our bodies tend to rely on the stronger and more dominant sides.
  • Asymmetry and imbalance create stress and strain on your body, often leading to injury, pain, or simple discomfort. Through yoga you can find equilibrium. There is also mental balance between the urge to push or control and the impulse to yield or be passive.
  • Through meditating on Christ as we learn to balance our physical and mental bodies we can learn to bring spiritual balance to our lives on and off the mat.
