Description

Take 'Er Easy There, Pilgrim! Welcome to Real Fast Campostela!

Are you afraid of the long and dangerous walk through the Pyrenees that killed Martin Sheen’s character’s son played by Emilio Esteves in the hit movie “The Way.” The French Way in the movie is 478 miles!

The Portuguese Way up from Lisbon is shorter but still a knee rattling 373-mile slog. And the terrain is just as mountainous as that of the French trail — treacherous.

I don’t know about you, but I don’t want to fall off of a cliff and die on the way to Catholic Mass. Have been asking yourself, “is there a better way? Here it is …

The English Way

Here is the least known, shortest way to fulfill the 100 km walking requirement to complete the Campostela in one fifth to one quarter the time, hassle, and pain. Interested?

Who Is Dr. Scott Brown?

I am not just an associate professor of finance at the AACSB Accredited Graduate School of Business of the University of Puerto Rico. I am also a scholar on the language, history, and culture of both Galicia and Portugal.

I speak fluent Spanish and Portuguese. And I married into a devote Catholic family that acts as a sounding board for this course.

The benefits of this course are multifold. The most important is that you will have a discussion board to ask Dr. Brown and other students questions as you plan your walk through the oaken hills and dells of historic Galicia known as Gaul by the Romans — or just the end of the world.

The Buzz

Here is what other hikers are saying in the popular press…

I met walkers who had been given a year to live” writes Tim Moore of The Guardian Newspaper in London, England. And in that same publication Andrew McCarthy reports that “I grew physically stronger each day, and by the time I strode into Santiago in late July I felt the way I always wanted to feel yet somehow never quite did.”

As the bus pulled into the medieval city Dr. Brown noticed throngs of hikers arriving.

He discovered that people make the hike in return for miraculous intervention in some problem in life. In 2015 a total of 262,458 pilgrims made the trip.

A much higher count is expected in 2016 because of the Holy year.

Daniel has a heel problem that makes walking painful. But he has no pain riding a bicycle.

For that reason Daniel has elected to complete the 300 kilometer Primitive Way from Oveido south to Santiago de Campostela.

The route is 3 times longer than the English Way but is faster and easier for Daniel on his bike. His son will be carrying an iPad for filming during completion.

Stay tuned for 2017!

Planned for Summer 2016: The English Way From Ferrol to Santiago de Campostela!
5 Lectures 33:35

I will spend the night in a hotel such as “El Suizo” which is one of eight hotels in Ferrol.

The English Way starts at a concrete post near the Ferrol curuxeiras docks. These are the same docks from which the Spanish Armada launched an attack on England in 1588.

The day long walk will pass through Xubía on the way to the ponte Neda [bridge]. This will take me by the Monasterio de San Martín de Jubia.

I will end the day at Pontedeume. This town is famous for a medieval tower called the Torreón dos Andrade. I will sleep at a lodging such as the Casa Pousadoira.

Stage 1 — Ferrol to Pontedeume 29 Km [18 Miles]
05:39

The 2nd day is the shortest trek at just over twelve miles. This will lead me through Viñas before finishing in Betanzos.

A major sight will be the Romanesque church of San Miguel de Breamo. Another is the stone mason marvel of the Ponte Baxoi Bridge before walking into Miño.

Then I will walk past the Betanzos Igrexa de San Martiño de Tiobre [church]. I will finish to spend the night at the Rectoral de Cines lodging.

Stage 2 — Pontedeume to Betanzos 19.5 Km [12.1 Miles]
09:29

At seventeen miles this is a long stretch that goes through Abegondo before arriving at Hospital de Bruma. This will take me by Igreja San Esteban de Cos [church].

Confession can be done at any of the churches I have mentioned if you arrive at the right time to take part fully in the Jubilee Indulgence of walking through the holy door.

I will be staying at the historic Casa Rural Antón Veiras. The next day I will embark on the final stage.

Stage 3 — Betanzos to Hospital de Bruma 27.5 Km [17.1 Miles]
08:03

This stage is the longest at about twenty-five miles. Leaving Hospital de Bruma I will trek through A Igrexa and Sigüeiro before arriving at Santiago de Campostela.

I will walk past the Igrexa de Barciela [church].

I will spend the evening at the Casa de Sixto. Then the next day I will walk through O Barral to arrive at the Holy door.

To receive the Jubilee Indulgence pilgrims are instructed by Pope Francis to consider the following eight steps.

  1. Reconciliation — Think of each sin with the intention of not repeating it for plenary indulgence.
  2. Holy Eucharist — Keep the intent of the Jubilee Indulgence in mind.
  3. Pray for the Pope — “Our father” and “Hail Mary” are traditional.
  4. A Profession of Faith — Confession and having a spiritual reason for walking.
  5. A 2nd Prayer for the Pope — “Our father” and “Hail Mary” are traditional.
  6. A Prayer for the Popes Intentions — For the good of the church and the world.
  7. A Reflection of Mercy — See Psalm #135 or #949 of Santa Faustina’s Dairy.
  8. Indulgenced Action — Walking the English Way to the Holy Door.

I will stay at one of the 72 hotels in the city such as the recommendedHotel Herradura.”

Stage 4 — Hospital de Bruma to Santiago de Campostela 40 Km [24.9 Miles]

My Curriculum Vitae:

Investment Writing and Speaking:

I am an internationalspeaker oninvestments. In 2010 I gave a series of lectures onboard Brilliance of the Seas as a guest speaker on their Mediterranean cruise. Financial topics are normally forbidden for cruise speakers. But with me they make an exception because of my financial pedigree.

On day 6 the topic I discussed was “Free and Clear: Secrets of Safely Investing in Real Estate!“ The day 7 topic was “Investment Style and Category: How the Stock Market Really Works!” Then on day 8 I spoke about “The 20% Solution: How to Survive and Thrive Financially in any Market!” The final talk on day 11 was “Value Investing for Dummies: When Dumb Money is Smart!

Gina Verteouris is the Cruise Programs Administrator of the Brilliance of the Seas of Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines. Regarding my on-board teachings she writes on June 19th, “You have really gone above and beyond expectations with your lectures and we have received many positive comments from our Guests.”

I sponsored and organized an investing conference at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas in 2011 under my Wallet Doctor brand. This intimate conference was attended by 14 paying attendees.

As such many strides were made in financial education that week. For instance I met a woman who is a retired engineer from the Reno, Nevada area.

She made a fortune on deep in the money calls during the bull markets of the 90s.

This humble and retired engineer inspired me to look more seriously at deep in the money calls with far expiration. She also gave me an important clue regarding trading volume.

Her call option and volume insights have been confirmed in the Journal of Finance.

In 2012 I gave a workshop at the FreedomFest Global Financial Summit on stock investing at the Atlantis Bahamas Resort. I was also a panelist on a discussion of capital markets.

My course “How to Build a Million Dollar Portfolio from Scratch" at the Oxford Club is an international bestseller. In 2014 I co-authored “Tax Advantaged Wealth” with leading IRS expert Jack Cohen, CPA. This was the crown jewel of the Oxford Club Wealth Survival Summit.

I have been a regular speaker at the Investment U Conferences.

In 2012 I gave a workshop entitled “How to Increase Oxford Club Newsletter Returns by 10 Fold!” The conference was held at the Grand Del Mar Resort in San Diego, California. This resort destination is rated #1 on TripAdvisor.

In 2013 I spoke at the Oxford Club’s Investment U Conference in San Diego California. The talk was entitled “The Best Buy Signal in 103 Years!” Later in the summer I spoke at the Oxford Club Private Wealth Conference at the Ojai Valley Inn.

This was at the same time that Jimmy Kimmel married Molly McNearney in the posh California celebrity resort. It was fun to watch some of the celebrities who lingered.

I also operate a live weekly investment mentorship subscription service under the Bullet-Proof brand every Monday night by GoToWebinar.

Academic Research:

I am an associate professor of finance of the AACSB Accredited Graduate School of Business at the University of Puerto Rico. My research appears in some of the most prestigious academic journals in the field of investments including the Journal of Financial Research and Financial Management. This work is highly regarded on both Main Street and Wall Street. My research on investment newsletter returns was considered so important to investors that it was featured in the CFA Digest.

The Certified Financial Analyst (CFA)is the most prestigious practitioner credential in investments on Wall Street.

Prestigious finance professor Bill Christie of the Owen School of Business of Vanderbilt University and then editor of Financial Management felt that our study was valuable to financial society. We showed that the average investment newsletter is not worth the cost of subscription.

I am the lead researcher on the Puerto Rico Act 20 and 22 job impact study. This was signed between DDEC secretary Alberto Bacó and Chancellor Severino of the University of Puerto Rico.
