  • Install The Tracking Code 2:46

In this video tutorial you will learn where to place your tracking code if you use:

    • StudioPress Genesis
    • Thesis
    • The default theme of WordPress
    • A plain HTML website
    Additional Notes

I would recommend you to place the tracking code in the  section of your website rather than in the . Different people have different opinions about this, but I choose the header and I will explain you the difference between these two options below.

If you add a large amount of scripts in the header you might end-up with your site loading very slow because the browser waits to load them before displaying the content, but if you place the majority of them in the footer, the content is loaded first and then the scripts.

This way, your visitors will not notice the difference.

On the other hand, if you place the tracking script in the footer and some of your visitors leave before it gets loaded they are not tracked. Personally, I think that it’s important to also track those visitors.

Now, if you have lots of scripts, try to place the less important ones in the footer, so you can keep the header for Google Analytics.

Also, the latest tracking script from Google Analytics is actually loading very fast and you should not have any problems with it.

  • Filter Admin Traffic6:53

In this video tutorial you will learn how to filter your own traffic from the Google Analytics reports. This way you will get accurate reports from Google Analytics that show exact numbers and conversion rates.

There are 2 methods available, by filtering your IP address or using cookie content. I covered both of them in the video above.

I also included in the downloads section a template that you can use to set cookies. All you have to do before uploading it to your site is make sure that you replace the account number with your own one.
