Even if you have an account, you might find useful the final part because it covers some details about tracking subdomains and AdWords.

In this video tutorial you will learn where to place your tracking code if you use:

  • StudioPress Genesis
  • Thesis
  • The default theme of WordPress
  • A plain HTML website
Additional Notes

I would recommend you to place the tracking code in the  section of your website rather than in the . Different people have different opinions about this, but I choose the header and I will explain you the difference between these two options below.

If you add a large amount of scripts in the header you might end-up with your site loading very slow because the browser waits to load them before displaying the content, but if you place the majority of them in the footer, the content is loaded first and then the scripts.

This way, your visitors will not notice the difference.

On the other hand, if you place the tracking script in the footer and some of your visitors leave before it gets loaded they are not tracked. Personally, I think that it’s important to also track those visitors.

Now, if you have lots of scripts, try to place the less important ones in the footer, so you can keep the header for Google Analytics.

Also, the latest tracking script from Google Analytics is actually loading very fast and you should not have any problems with it.

In this video tutorial you will learn how to filter your own traffic from the Google Analytics reports. This way you will get accurate reports from Google Analytics that show exact numbers and conversion rates.

There are 2 methods available, by filtering your IP address or using cookie content. I covered both of them in the video above.

I also included in the downloads section a template that you can use to set cookies. All you have to do before uploading it to your site is make sure that you replace the account number with your own one.

    Good course

Ez feedback for an ez course. Very well done Eugen!

    • Carlos Rodriguez

    Really excellent introduction

Thanks Eugen for this GA course, it has been really useful for me to understand basics of this fascinating world. Anyway I give you some kind advices to improve: 1) This course uses old version of GA and nowadays people who follows this course can not do the same at a real GA account. Options are slightly different now and it is quite tricky to follow and practice with it (although I managed to do it with my acccount !!!!!!). So I encourage you to do the same for the curren/latest GA version. It will be fantastic to attend one of your courses again. 2) I would remove the audio content of the course. It did not work at my side and we already have video + text versions, so it does not make sense to have it there. Sound files did not work at 2 different PCs, maybe something related with plugins or similar, but this type of course requires video to follow it and see real examples. Thanks a lot for this course. Carlos

Explained the piece I was missing

I have used Google Analytics for many years but never really understood the goal system. Oh sure I have heard about it and knew it was there and understand the concept. What I was missing was exactly how to use it, which isn't hard but with my attention pulled in so many directions I just haven't had the time to experiment with that side of the system. This course easily explained all the in's and out's of the goal system and how to quickly build trackable events. So, for me, I got exactly what I was looking for out of this course. Thank you!

    INformative, but outdated model

The instructor knew what he was doing, but Google Analytics has updated their system. This course does not reflect that.

    • Liz Ponsford

Really helped me understand what is possible and how to interpret

I knew it was important to set up goals but didn't realise about different dashboards and will find this useful when I start my new job as Affiliate manager
