A little talk on safety on Couchsurfing (and generally if you stay at the home of strangers). Yes, I had some bad experiences on the platform before, so please always use common sense and keep in mind that you can leave anytime. This applies to all the hospitality exchange networks.
A guide on how to be a great guest when traveling. These lessons can be applied anytime you find yourself as a guest in the home of a strangers. Remember, don't take it for granted that someone invited you! Especially applicable when you couchsurf on your travels! Enjoy your stay! ✓
Techniques how to use social media, like Facebook to find free places to stay on your travels! My biggest tip is using Facebook Livestreams in groups to find a host. I suggest combining all your social media's power when you travel, to get maximum exposure! Suggested FB groups to post, in the city you want to stay at:
Student's groups (like so-called "Erasmus" in Europe)
Couchsurfing groups
Ultimate Frisbee groups
Quidditch groups
... and any groups of hobbies you personally super enjoy.
Something that unfortunately didn't make it it into the guide, besides this small text annotation at the end, is using dating apps for place to stay. Most prominently you can use Tinder, but there are many many more dating apps that you could use to do this! :)
Tips and tricks how to sleep at places such as train stations, hospitals, police, bus station, petrol station... and more! Essentially at public buildings that are open 24/7! It depends hugely on the individual persons you will find, and on the country you find yourself in, if this advice works or not. Anyways, give it a go and get ready for an adventure! :) Happy traveling!
Tips and advice on how to sleep at airports! I slept at dozens of airports around Europe, and I think it's a pretty good accommodation option. Usually though, you can only find airports in bigger cities, and some might be closed at night! As mentioned in the guide, go and check sleepingatairports.com for tips on specific airports!
My tips and techniques how to find strangers on the street (and universities and wherever) for free place to stay. Biggest recommendation, just go out there and talk with strangers, get a feeling for it, and master the art of finding a place to stay! :) This way you can find wonderful people.
Guide on wild-camping, so where to put up your tent, have a good sleep and not getting caught, for free! Remember, wild camping might be illegal in the country you're traveling, so hide yourself! I didn't do it that much on my travels, as I'm a little lazy to set up the tent usually, so I'd normally stay at homes of people. This is though a very good option if you don't have a home, and want alone-time!
Everything you need to know when you don't have a tent, and no home to stay at and you want to survive the night and hopefully have a good sleep too. :) I slept outside a couple of times, with nothing but just my cloths I had on. At summer times this might just work fine, but at colder times, the very very least thing you could do is walking/running around until the next morning. Sounds crazy, but it works.
Final chapter of my free accommodation guide, covering different mindsets that can ease your way to free place to stay, and I wrap it all up at the end! :) I truly hope that I can install some new ideas into your mind, and help you to move past "internal blocks" that might hold you back to travel. Hope it gave you some new perspective on life.
