Section 1: Introduction

Welcome to Finally a Clutter Free Home. In this lecture we will go over how this course has been designed and how to get the most out of the content.

Section 2: The Method Unveiled

What makes Marie Kondo's book so different from the hundreds of other de-cluttering and organizing books out there? In this lecture we will dive deep into the one major difference.

Every method has it's own suggested rules or best practices. Let's go over how the suggestions for this method and how to tailor them to meet your own lifestyle and needs.

Getting started is very simple. You already have the supplies you need in your home right this second. So let's look at the material list and get started.

Be sure to make your own copy of the Trello board used in this course so that you can customize it with your own before and after photos.

Section 3: Deconstructing your home, one category at a time.

The first and easiest thing to tackle are your wearables. In this lecture we will move through how to tackle your clothing in a well that is less overwhelming than the book suggests.

This is your first action exercise. Follow the steps to begin your Life Changing Magic!

You've decided what to keep, now what is the best way to store it?

Now that your have discarded all the clothes that you do not want to keep, it's time to organize what you will keep.

So we've started off easy, now it's time to move on to the next category and test how well you have adapted to your "toss test."

Do you have favorite books that you want to hang on to? Take this test to see what to keep in your book collection and what to toss.

  1. Take all of your books off your shelves.
  2. Collect books from all the places around the house where you store them including cook books and reference books.
  3. Hold each book in your hand and ask yourself if you would read this book again.
  4. Discard any books that you purchased but never read.
  5. Discard any books that are readily available at your library.
  6. Keep only those books that you have a strong sentimental tie to or that you regularly go back to such as a cook book.
  • If a cookbook only has one or two recipes that you use, consider copying those or ripping out the pages and discarding the rest of the book.
  • If you have a local library you can donate all the books you do not keep.
  • If you do not have a library, consider putting in a garage sale or finding a charity that you can donate them to.
  • If you have a series, consider putting them up for sale on eBay, Amazon or Craigslist.

What is the number one source of clutter in your home? If you are like most people, that culprit is paper. Let's deal with that category next.

  1. Gather all paper from the various landing and storing places in your home.
  2. Sort into 4 piles
  • What you need to act on
  • What you need to keep for the short term
  • What you need to keep for the long term
  • Trash

For papers that you need to keep long term

  • Store them in a clear folder
  • Don't bother to sort them

For papers that you need to keep for the short term

  • Keep them in labeled folders
  • Occasionally review what you have in this category and toss when you no longer need the items

Tips to keep the paper to a minimum

  • Consider keeping electronic copies of receipts
  • Consider electronic or paperless billing
  • Open your mail next to the trash bin and immediately recycle any junk mail

By now you've honed your "toss test" skills and you are ready to tackle every other area of your home. So let's get started.

Section 4: Conclusion

How do you customize and set-up your Trello Decluttering board? In this lecture I will give you the tips you need to make this board your own.

Instructor Biography

Julie Ann Price, Professional Planner, Instructor, Business Coach, Author

I love being a “rebel with a cause." My whole life I have “fought the system." I don't believe in doing things the way they've always been done unless you give me a darn good reason why.

Even as a child, I fought my religious upbringing because it made no sense to me why going to a certain building on a certain day and listening to the same words over and over was a good thing. If it doesn't make sense, then don't do it!

That doesn't mean I am without beliefs because I have plenty of those. I just don't believe anyone can tell me the right way or the wrong way to express them.

For example, I believe corporate America was built by men and will be destroyed by men. Women have better things to do than buy in to the rules of the corporation and better aspirations than the corner office.

As women, we have a natural ability to lead, create and nurture. It is in our nature to collaborate and create businesses in which everyone wins and no one loses. I believe in embracing my nature and doing work that I love that helps others in the process.

You will see that W.O.O. Women is an extension of me and my passion for personal expression. I hope you will take the time to learn about the Women Helping Women Community and join us in designing ideal lifestyles.

A Little Bit About Me

I am a 360-degree coach. I am trained as a health, life and business coach so when I work with you, I can provide you with insightful coaching that takes into account all aspects of your life.

Often, struggles in business are a reflection of struggles at home. When your personal life is out of “whack" you will find it shows up in your business and your health. These three aspects of you – life, health and work – are so closely tied together that improving one area will also improve the other two.

I am also a mother of two, a wife of one, and a chauffeur of many. Like you, I wear multiple hats and juggle responsibilities with making time for myself and staying healthy.
