5 questions

If you score more than 90% it means that you can move onto the next topic.

A2: Past Tense of TO SEE with Animals - Exercise
01:36
Section 5: B1 Verb Patterns: Comparison
4 questions

Let's check out what is the correct form of the word after the phrase "The cat is smaller than the elephant." SLON (elephant) becomes SLONA after "than" :) Best of luck! Srećno!

02:40

When comparing, use the Genitive form of the noun after "than" ="od":

For Fem.Sg. drop the final -a and add -E: Konj je veći od zebrE.

For the Masc. Sg. simplz add -A: Zebra je manja od konjA.

03:23

* You will see a couple of animals, one bigger one smaller and then all you have to do is to make two sentences like these ones:

  • The giraffe is bigger than the mouse.
  • The mouse is smaller than the giraffe.. Feminine nouns drop the final -A, and get the suffix -E (Žirafa: od žirafE, pticA - od ptice...)
02:52

Now you are ready to practice on your own:

  • Žirafa je veća od mišA.
  • Miš je manji od žirafE.

There are two things you have to pay attention to:

  1. All adjectives agree with the noun referring to, so you'll change the basic form of VEĆI (bigger) and MANJI (smaller) with the first mentioned animal: e.g. ŽirafA je manjA... , Miš je manjI..., KučE je manjE...
  2. When comparing two things you say in English: The giraffe is bigger than the mouse. In the Serbian language the comparative form is followed "od + Genitive" (THAN + Genitive case), and therefore you'll see that the nouns which are Sg. Masculine and Neuter nouns get a final -A (od mišA, od slonA...) while Sg

B2 Exercise: Where would you live if you were a cat?

Section 7: C1: Verb Patterns: Describing Animals and People

It's always fun to learn as...as comparisons in different languages, because they reveal not only linguistic patterns, but also shed the light on the way of life and culture. That's why I prepared a series of fun lessons and useful phrases which will enrich your vocabulary and impress your Serbian native speaker friends and family!
