Microsoft Power Automate Desktop for Beginners: Build a Career in RPA
Want to build a career in robotic process automation (RPA) with Microsoft technologies but have never automated anything before? You are in the right place. This course starts at the very beginning, installing Microsoft Power Automate Desktop on your computer, and takes you all the way to a portfolio of working automation projects and the preparation to walk into RPA interviews with confidence.
Along the way, you will automate the repetitive work that eats up a workday: Excel reports, web tasks, email, files, folders and databases. You will build both desktop flows and cloud flows, learn how the two work together, and bring AI into your automations with Copilot. No coding or programming background is needed.
How the course teaches
Every topic follows the same rhythm, designed for beginners, so you always know what comes next:
Theory videos: understand each concept before you build with it.
Demonstration videos: watch the concept applied in a real flow.
Quizzes: check your understanding as you go.
Practice assignments: build automation projects on your own so the skills stick.
Capstone project: bring everything together in one comprehensive automation challenge.
What you will learn, step by step
Desktop flow foundations. Download, install and set up Microsoft Power Automate Desktop, get comfortable with its interface and environments, and build your first desktop flow. Then master variables, the building blocks of every automation you will create.
Core automation logic. Use conditions so your flows respond intelligently, loops to handle repetitive steps, and Power Fx, a robust feature that simplifies desktop flows with Excel-like formulas. Learn to test your flows so they run error free.
Automating everyday work. Automate websites with browser automation, mimic human-computer interactions with UI automation and the recorder, and take control of Excel, files and folders, email, and database actions. You will also integrate CyberArk for secure credential handling in desktop flows.
Cloud flows, work queues and AI. Transition to Microsoft Power Automate cloud flows, understand when cloud automation beats desktop automation, coordinate work at scale with work queues, and use Copilot to add AI to your flows.
Interview preparation and capstone project. Get familiar with the questions asked in Microsoft Power Automate and automation interviews, practice articulating your answers, and finish with a capstone project that applies everything you have learned to a real-world scenario.
Who built this course
This course is built by RPATech, an intelligent automation company that implements automation solutions for businesses and trains professionals on the same tools it deploys in real client work. When you learn Microsoft Power Automate here, you are learning it the way it is used on actual automation projects.
Where this can take you
By the end of the course, you will have a portfolio of automation projects to showcase your skills as an automation developer, and the knowledge to start building your career in RPA with Microsoft technologies. If Microsoft's PL-500 (Power Automate RPA Developer) certification is on your longer-term roadmap, the hands-on skills you build here give you a practical foundation for that path. To be clear, this is a skills course, not a PL-500 exam prep course.
