Description

Albert Einstein called our normal state the “optical delusion of consciousness." Almost all of our awareness is processed in our conscious minds. The interesting thing is that 90% of our mental processing is not conscious at all. Like an iceberg, only about 10 percent is apparent.

Your brain learns in a way entirely foreign to how you've been taught. That's a bold statement, and we suggest that you suspend your beliefs in traditional learning and teaching methods while you experience this course. This will be to your advantage.

Brian Walsh wants to share with you what he has learned from his experience as a corporate trainer working with various cultures, and his training as a hypnotherapist and a practitioner of Neurolinguistic Programming (NLP). A great deal of his study dealt with what lies beyond conscious learning.

This UDEMY course is built on Brian's live workshop. In it, you will learn how the brain processes information, and how emotions and beliefs affect learning. You will discover that the way your brain is wired can be altered both intentionally and unintentionally. With this knowledge, you can effectively apply the tools and techniques presented.

You will be given many tips on how to go beyond conscious learning to more easily absorb information. The content has been designed to appeal to visual, auditory, and kinesthetic learning styles.

No matter how well you think you learn, once you've completed this course, you will be able to achieve more, in less time, with less effort. Sign up now.

The Basics
3 Lectures 23:22

The optimal learning state is through integrated whole mind-body processing. With both hemispheres actively firing, access to all sensory information is certain. The synergy created through communication, processing, and action is maximized.

When you perform the following activities, you will be more centered, more coordinated, and less stressed. Your learning ability will be enhanced through the integration of the left and right hemispheres of your brain. Dee Coulter, a cognitive specialist and neuroscience educator, calls these exercises micro-interventions. Their success can also reverse a learner’s expectation of failure.

The origins of the following processes go back many thousands of years. Many organizations use movement to help people with diagnosed learning difficulties. Some of the various methods are know as Tactile Neurokinesiology Therapy, Proprioception Therapy, and Kinesiological and Neurokinesiological Rehabilitation.

According to specialized kinesiology researchers, 80 percent of learning difficulties are related to blockages generated by stress that short-circuits the brain. These fused electrical patterns can be released through competent use of kinesiology, including using pressure-points, muscle testing, and coordinated patterned movements.36 In Chapter 5, we covered the Emotional Freedom Technique that also clears these neural short-circuits. Also, investigate local practitioners of Pilates, Craniosacral Therapy, Yoga, Tai Chi, and Brain Gym(R)

Brian leads the whole audience in some kinesiology exercises and explains what Enriched learning really is.

Brian is a solid promoter of using visual materials to enhance learning. These include concept maps, vision boards, and flow charts.

To demonstrate this, he uses a large board right on the stage to outline this workshop.

BTW - When giving live workshops, Brian usually avoids projected slide-shows like PowerPoint or Prezi. He prefers using flip charts since the low-tech experience better connects the audience to him.

Some biological cycles last for many days. In this lesson Brian explains a biorhythm known as the Basic Rest-Activity Cycle (BRAC). It oscillates between 90 and 120 minutes, consistently, around the clock.

During the active portion (peak performance period) of the cycle, there is greater electrical activity in the left hemisphere, a verbal cognitive mode, and the autonomic nervous system (ANS) is in a mode of sympathetic predominance.15 This means that it is “open for business.” Heightened physical activity, mental alertness, and energy mean that logic, rationality, and a “black and white” approach are being exercised.

During the rest portion (healing response) of the cycle, there is increased right hemispheric electrical activity, a spatial cognitive mode, and a settling down of the autonomic nervous system. Midway through the rest cycle is a trough of about twenty-minutes. This is when many cells of the brain that hold critical messenger molecules, such as adrenaline, are nearing empty. At this point, all the cells in the body are taking time out to replenish, rejuvenate, and rebalance. It is during this part of the cycle that people daydream and can be most creative.

In her book, The Dominance Factor, neurophysiologist Carla Hannaford explains how individuals have not only a dominant brain hemisphere and hand but also possess a dominant foot, eye, and ear.

Dominance is suspected to begin in utero. As early as nine weeks after conception, the Moro Reflex (a startle reflex) is established in the embryo. A newborn will employ its dominant ear to detect danger by resting its head with the dominant ear facing upward. This survival system incorporates the hands, feet, eyes, nose, and the proprioceptors (position sensors).

During stress, people mechanically revert to their dominant sides. This is known as basal dominance patterns. Observing how their body and mind process information, a unique learning style is revealed. The various neural wiring configurations of the human brain, eye, ear, hand, and foot result in a total of thirty-two possible basal dominance profiles.

In this lesson, Brian explains how these factors affect people in times of stress or learning new things.

The Intelligent Mind
5 Lectures 28:21

Just for a moment, consider intelligence as much more than a score on an IQ test. Understand that it determines and reflects how well we navigate through life's tasks and challenges. Employees are generally evaluated within the narrow scope of their job descriptions, without consideration of their potential in an enriched environment. Job enlargement and enrichment may offer opportunities for employees to exercise otherwise untapped resources. This is a win-win for the employee and the company.

Since students can learn and excel in many and various ways, teachers and schools would do well to go beyond long-held narrowly-focused practices of evaluating students mainly on their verbal-linguistic and logical-mathematical proficiencies. Students possessing these traits are rewarded with good grades from a school system based on century-old curricula that caters to the left-hemisphere of the brain. This narrow focus disenfranchises a large number of students, who must suffer at the hands of a structure wanting to fit square pegs into round holes.

Apart from the verbal-linguistic and logical-mathematical types of intelligences mentioned above, other types, arguably just as important, but often overlooked or downplayed, include spatial, creative, bodily-kinesthetic, musical, social/INTER-personal, spiritual/INTRA-personal, and sensual-naturalistic.Unfortunately, students who primarily express these traits have often been belittled or, at the very least, ignored.

This lesson is Brian Walsh's analysis on the works of Tony Buzan and Howard Gardner.

People communicate, both verbally and nonverbally, in a diversity of styles. It's almost as if they are speaking different languages to each other.

Knowing how these styles differ can help you put your ideas across more clearly, and give your point of view greater acceptance. As well, you'll have a better handle on the messages people are sending and saying to you.
