Course Description

Have you ever wanted to learn about investing in companies? How to trade stocks and shares?

Do you like the idea of building a lucrative investment portfolio, but are scared of all the horror stories you hear? You know the ones – how people have literally lost there houses on a bad investment?

Would you like to take control of your wealth but don’t have the time to sit and watch stock market prices all day long?

Like you, I have a full time job, and like you I always wanted to get involved in the stock market – but I simply didn’t know where to start!

Early on in my investing I made lots of mistakes.  I made a bit of money, then lost some on a bad bet.

But through research, a bit of trial and error, and ultimately a modicum of common sense – I learnt what most other investors don’t want you to know – that investing in the stock market is actually easy, relatively straight forward, doesn’t require you to give up your job – and with a few simple rules - can be safer than you think!

As my experience grew I transferred £10k into my own managed portfolio.  In no time at all my investments had grown to £30k! All without having to put any more money in.

Let’s be clear on this – I’m not a financial wiz.  I just learnt a handful of basic principles – and then did it all whilst holding down a full time job and busy family life!

Now I want to show you just how easy it can be – and help you succeed too!

In my course I’ll teach you;

  • The basics of investing – what exactly ARE stocks, shares, ISAs, SIPPs bonds and gilts?
  • Where to find stocks that are growing and have real potential;
  • All the FREE tools you need.
  • How to perform SIMPLE analysis of a company – get to the core of what you need to know.
  • How to separate the good investments from the bad
  • How to reduce risk as much as possible to stop you from losing it all on one bad deal.

I’ll assume you don’t know the first thing of investing, that you don’t have time to spend all day scouring the financial times or glued to stock price tickers.

By the end you’ll know your PE Ratios from your Market Caps – and you’ll have the confidence to invest without putting you house at risk!

So join my course – EASY STOCK MARKET SUCCESS IN SIMPLE STEPS – and take control of YOUR finances.

Section 1: Introduction

Just a quick welcome! And brief overview of the course.

Section 2: Stocks, Shares and Other Investing 101

People invest for difference reasons. Here we discuss some of them.

$10, $100, $1,000,000,000,000!!???

How much do you need to invest? As always it's not QUITE that simple. :-)

What are the options for normal Savings and what are ISAs in the UK?

Heard the term but no idea what they are? Actually Bonds and Gilts can be handy additions to anyone's portfolio, and I'll explain why.

Don't know your SIPP from an ISA? Let's have a look at what a SIPP is (hint - it's an acronym for Self Invested Pension Fund) - and why ISAs and Pensions are such great investment vehicles!

No, it's nothing to do with bushes. But actually Hedge Funds (sometimes known just as funds) are great ways for novice Investors or those with not much Capital to get started.

At last! What exactly ARE Stocks and Shares!

OK, you want to trade? You'll need a broker!

Let's introduce the tools (i.e. websites) we'll be using.

I'll also run through how you place a trade on a typical Broker site.

Section 3: How to Find Companies Worth Your Money!

Just a brief intro to this section.

Investing is too much easier these days thanks to the internet! Let's look at how to leverage the various tools we have to start looking for companies,

A number of websites have these neat little lists to help you find stocks worth investing in.

Get some hints from the experts (ahem).

Section 4: Analysing Stocks

This Section is about how to decide if a company you're interested in is worth investing in. We look at Apple (APPL) as an example throughout and then decide if it's worth all the hype!

I've provided a useful spreadsheet to help you analyse companies - let's have a quick look at how to use it.

No one is safe from the media these days - use this to your advantage!

Those squiggly lines that get people in pin stripe suits so excited! Let's start to look at what they actually MEAN.

Not all share prices are equal!

Nothing to do with shopping or head wear. But very important all the same.

Of course profit is important - but it's not quite all that simple! Actually yes it is - and I'll show you why.

Did you know companies pay YOU when you own a part of them? Thats called a Dividend and past dividends help estimates a companies growth prospects.

Those long lengthy statements waffling on and displaying a bunch of numbers? I'll show you how to skip through and get to the information you NEED.

OK - all research done - let's bring it all together and make a decision.

Section 5: Reducing Risk

The section is INCREDIBLY important - and could mean the difference between you losing your house - or just a shirt (a cheap one).

Be a robot! Or in the words of Douglas Adams - DON'T PANIC!!!!!!

Don't know the first things about Ladies handbags or football? Better stay clear then. Stick to what you know - or can at least grasp.

If this saying was every meant for anything - it was meant for Investment.

Section 6: Bonus - All the downloadable stuff.

Click the resources table to download the PDF containing the keywords.

This Comparison chart will help you check and track the companies you are interested in.

My finished example of a simple Excel spreadsheet that illustrates how much investments can grow by over time.

Brett Hargreaves, Professional Software Developer and Teacher

Hi! I'm Brett and I live in a quiet little town in the North of England.

I've worked in IT for over 15 years as a developer and architect and I've been programming since I was 10. I've worked as a freelancer and as a consultant for small companies and some of the worlds largest IT providers - including Fujitsu, Cap Gemini and Capita.

In that time I've worked with a range of development tools from BASIC to PASCAL, Visual Basic, C#, Swift, Java, ASP and ASP.NET. I've built solutions with pure code, Dynamics CRM and Sharepoint - I certainly don't get bored!

I love learning new technologies, and more recently I'm enjoying sharing that knowledge through books, blogs and of course training courses.

For me learning is a lifelong pursuit - and I hope you'll join me on my journey!
