  • Assignment 1
  • Sketching your Character15:24

When it comes to sketching out your character, having something in mind is a plus. As it will help keep the pencil flowing. The more you keep the pencil flowing the better the sketch. It’s also don’t want to over sketch and or focus on one area. Drawing the character in its entirety is the way you go.

Here are some tips that will help you sketch our better characters.

#1 Give your character a backstory. The stronger the story the easier it's going to be to draw certain aspects of your character and give it character. For example, this could be any number of things.

    #2 Enjoy the process

#3 It’s ok and even recommended to draw the same thing over again, but each time you draw it you should try to improve it.

#4 Get out of your comfort zone as much as you can.

#5 Ground your character in reality. You first ground your character and then you can go bunkers designing it. This means, for example before you off giving it something special, over 90% of what your character is wearing should be normalize looking. So that more people can relate.

#6 Have a color scheme in mind. The more thinking you can do before you start drawing the better the drawing will flow.

#7 This is perhaps the most important tip, get into flow state, and once you are there try to stay there for as long as possible. Getting into flow state is actually quite hard to do. But it helps to minimize the distractions. At most you could have music on but leave it at that. Put away your phone. It will be worth it.

  • Assignment 2
  • Giving it Something Special10:27

After grounding your character in reality, it’s a good idea give it that one special thing, the one thing this going to make it unique among the masses. When it comes to giving the character that one special thing, it’s okay to go to push the boundaries. But its always a good idea to stay in the probable zone and stay away from the impossible. The one someone can relate to your character the better.

  • Color17:26

When it comes to coloring, there’s a thousand ways you can do it and end up with the same result. However, in those one thousand different ways there is to color something, there is always one common denominator. And that’s base color. Good base coloring provides a solid foundation for any drawing.

  • Assignment 3
  • Finishing your Character18:34

“Art is never finished, it’s only abandoned” Leonardo Da Vinci and in many ways this is true. Anyone can keep going on a paying or drawing for way passed the payoff point. And that’s something you should always try to avoid. What is the payoff point of the drawing? That’s a hard question. But we will try to answer it in this video.
