Section 1: Coding in HTML (HyperText Markup Language)
03:01
Welcome to "Develop Your First Website!!" Thank you firstly for joining us. Thank you for entrusting us to deliver you a content-rich course, covering lots about the basics of HTML and CSS. Finishing this course will enable you to have the skills, and hopefully confidence, to develop your own masterpiece. This class also covers the difference between a 'webpage' and 'website.' What is it? You'll just have to watch.
08:38

In this first lecture of the course, we will be looking at tags and understanding what each one represents and how it incorporates into the overall HTML code. Thank you for joining us and best of luck to this lecture and the remainder of the course.

2 questions

Have you been paying attention? I hope so! Here is a short quiz to solidify what you just learnt about - tags in HTML.

03:33
Understand how to save your document into HTML format (.html) and open the webpage into your local web browser. You can use Safari, Mozilla Firefox, Chrome, Opera, Internet Explorer - whatever you like! By opening into our web browser, this is how we will continue to check our code for any errors.
03:25
Want to link your website to another website to increase traffic or run market affiliation services? Learn how to code a simple HTML link (hyperlink) into your code so people can click links on this website and visit another.
06:39
We all know images are one of the most essential aspects of your website's content. This class will teach you how to code an image on to your website. It's very simple and only one line of code. Do not be afraid, we are guiding you every step of the way!!
04:34
Jumping into Adding DIV Tags allows us to define certain "containers" in our HTML code which inevitably allows us to separate our web content (text, pictures, etc) into certain areas of the website. Bundled closely with CSS, this is an important aspect of website design and layout.
02:55
Not only can we create HTML links with text but we can also click on images that link us to another website or webpage. This class will show you how to do just that (links with Lecture 4).
Adding Dot Points & Line Breaks
02:36
01:52
Learn how to add comments to your HTML code to help you remember things and to assist in the develop of your website. Adding comments is a fantastic way to keep track of large portions of code and understand what code associates with other code snippets.
01:37
Without needing to use CSS, change some of the characteristics of your text using these simple methods.
05:23
Typing out long sentences can be a drag. However, with tables, you can create a neat way to present your data/information on your website. Coupled with dot points (Lecture 8) tables are another fantastic option to dotting short phrases of information.
4 questions

Have you been listening? This quiz covers the general details learnt throughout the HTML section of this course. Consolidate your knowledge by taking this overview course, before beginning CSS.

Section 2: Coding in CSS (Cascading Style Sheet)
01:07
Go round, it is finally time for some serious CSS!! Time to take our very plain-looking webpage, and add some colour and style. This class is a quick introduction to CSS.....Welcome.
01:29
This course takes you through creating and saving your document to CSS (.css) so it can be read by your HTML code. Quick, but important class.
02:43
The class will instruct you how to link your CSS document into your HTML code so you can begin to define the characteristics of HTML tags.
Quick CSS Introduction Quiz
3 questions
03:02
Notes: DIV Tags - have a (#) before the tag name e.g. #content { HTML Tags - do not have a hash before the tag name e.g. body {
05:37
In this class learn how to add both background colours and change the colour of your text.
03:03
Learn how to add a background image, rather than just colour.
Defining Sizes (width, height)
02:33
03:27
With static 'height' functions, you are somewhat limited to your ability. With 'min-height' you have the ability to set minimum heights from div tags, but if more room is needed for extra text, images, or video, the container will automatically adjust to fit the content. To sum up, a height of 400px is static, and the website container will over ever be 400px. Use min-height 400px and suddenly the website container is a minimum of 400px only if you have one line of text, but if you were to write an essay, the container would expand beyond 400px to as big as is required!!
01:37
This class takes us through adding and adjusting font sizes. It is simple for you to add front sizes to all forms of text in your code including 'h1' and 'h3' tags, not just the 'p' tag, which is discussed in this video class.
02:33
In this class we begin to understand adding text fonts. It is important to remember you can add multiple fonts. This is a great idea, especially if someone viewing your website does not have a specific font installed on their computer.
Aligning Text
01:14
DIV Tag Container Positioning
01:51
EXTRA: (Part II of Lecture 25)
03:08
