Breath-Mindfulness Meditation:
Even though there are several meditation practices, the practice of Breath-Mindfulness meditation or “Ana-pana-sati meditation is one of the simplest. We will practice this meditation everyday in our sessions.
Breath-Mindfulness means being mindful of the normal and natural breath for the whole duration of the meditation. Ana in Pali language means ‘in-breath’; apana is ‘out-breath’ and sati means ‘to be one with’. Hence, Ana-pana-sati means to be one with the breath. This meditation was originally taught by Buddha. In the recent times, it has been popularized by several meditation teachers and masters from East and West.
Breath-Mindfulness meditation is very easy. Sit comfortably in a chair or on the floor / carpet. Close your eyes. Cross your feet at ankles. With your fingers crossed into each other, rest your hands comfortably in your lap. Be as comfortable as possible in your body posture. Then, rest your attention on your breath, and observe the normal and natural in-breath and out-breath.
In this meditation, one needs to maintain normal breathing and breathe naturally. The task on hand is to consciously observe the naturally happening breath. “Observation " means, not influencing the Breath in any way with any of our material senses or thoughts. There should not be any holding or stopping of the breath. No sounds in the mouth and no forms in the mind either. Just the observation of the natural in-breath and out-breath. Whenever the mind wanders, one has to consciously bring one's attention back again and again to the natural rhythm of breathing.

Breath Mindfulness Meditation is about reducing the thoughts. This process of reducing the thought happens by slowing down the brain waves. There are various frequency of brain waves from a high beta, beta, alpha, delta and theta. So all the slowing down is happening in our brain. As you're observing the breathe, we are slowing down by automatically not giving energy to the thoughts. Now we will use every opportunity that helps us to bring our thoughts down faster. And one such thing is a core process called heart elevation.
Heart-Elevation process involves feeling elevated emotions such as love, compassion, gratitude, adventure in one’s heart. Research has shown that when the heart is moved into an elevated emotional state, it is making the brain become coherent and empty quickly and easily. This process is also helping to develop body immunity among other things.
Heart-Elevation process is simple. Sit comfortably. Cross your feet. Keep your hands on your chest area. Close your eyes. Put your attention on your breath and your heart. Take long relaxing breaths, and feel your heart for 2-3 min.
During the meditation process, we simply need to observe the experiences as a witness without any interpretation. After the meditation session ends, we can make a note of any unique experiences. As we experience more, share them, listen-in more to other’s experiences, and study more and more spiritual books, we will develop the ability to interpret the experiences on our own and make effective use of them.
With regular practice of meditation, we can gain a lot of wisdom to progress and elevate ourselves intuitively.

We are the five bodies - physical body, mind, intellect, individual consciousness, universal consciousness. Meditation is helping naturally take care of all the bodies. Meditation helps us develop the right food habits.
The mind identifies itself with various memories and creates separation among all things when fed by ego. Ego is the dual-nature of the mind. Ego helps to experience matter. Intellect makes decision by discerning right and wrong. It is the non-dual nature of the mind, and helps to unite all things. Regular meditation expands your consciousness. For the beginners of meditation, it is recommended that they meditate for a minute for every one year of their age. So if you are 20 years of age, do twenty minutes of meditation in a day; if you are 40 years of age, meditate for forty minutes. If a 50 year old wants to break up his/her meditation session into two sessions of twenty five minutes each during the day, it is' okay' initially.
Health is the foundation of the body. We can aspire for anything and achieve anything but if health is not there then anything else doesn't exist at all. How meditation helps healing our body:
Epigenetics science has proved that by being in heightened feelings or emotions i.e. love, compassion, gratitude, feeling of oneness can restore one’s health. With meditation we can regain perfect health.
When we re-live any memories with emotions of anger, frustration, feeling insecure, we register that into our cells. This causes stress. Stress causes illness by making us feel anxious and grievous and produces more stress hormones like cortisol. With that we are not able to sleep properly and lowering our immunities.
In an emergency situation, the physical body goes into fight or flight mode and same thing happens when our mind is under stress. Like, in physical danger situations, the blood is directed to the body part where it’s needed more and other biological function gets interrupted. Similarly, when we are under stress our conscious mind doesn’t work properly. Re-living such memory adds 50% more when a negative incident is repeated as we share with others. That’s triggering our body to go into fight and flight mode stressful all the time impairing other system. Our body doesn’t work properly as the energy is directed to protect the high priority tasks. So, most of the stressful person lives with digestive system issues like heart burn, constipation.
When we regularly meditation, as we empty our mind, we are reducing energy to such events. Our thoughts and memories come down. Old memories go away. We become more self-aware and take better care of ourselves.

Meditation is helping in removing a lot of addictions and cravings. Regular practice of meditation is helping not only in the production of "endorphins" but also a lot of feel good chemicals including dopamine and serotonin. With meditation our sleep gets better. Thoughts are significantly reduced and our brain waves changes, from high beta, beta, alpha to delta. The delta state is the state during our deep sleep. That helps increase in a hormone called, melatonin and reducing cortisol. It Brings deeper sleep and also transcendental experiences ( i.e. oneness, larger than body, peace, calmness).
So the deeper quality sleep is achieved by, Lowering the brain waves, Increase in melatonin and reducing cortisol.

What we eat also plays a big role. Non-veg food doesn’t digest properly. Human body is designed to be herbivorous as we have long intestines where food takes longer time to digest and meat-eating animals, carnivores have shorter intestine.

Limiting beliefs from the past have to be reprogrammed with empowering beliefs and thought patterns. Our brain is divided into three parts called Learning brain (Conscious mind), Doing brain (Subconscious mind) and Being brain (Unconscious mind). The frontal area is called the Neocortex. The middle area is called the Limbic brain and the third area is called the Reptilian brain.
All the new learnings and processing the new learnings happens in Neocortex. Anything that we learn from sensory inputs is from the Neocortex. When we learn something new, neurons connect with other neurons and forms the new neural connections.
Doing is applying the knowledge and bringing that into practice. Every time we face repetitive situations, we fire the same neural connections again.

People can be broadly classified into four categories- some maybe spiritually rich,some spiritually poor,some materially rich and some materially poor and a combination is always available. For materially poor people we lend help as much as that is possible by us and when we encounter materially rich people we make Friendships.Following generalisations is something that every meditator will avoid. We have to get away from generalisations. Spiritually poor- when we recognize that someone does not know anything about Anapanasati then we do not give money but instead provide that spiritually poor person with liberating knowledge i.e Meditation. Give selflessly everything that you know about that knowledge without holding back anything. We become students to spiritually rich people and learn from them. We ask questions or listen to them as they have so much knowledge.

One of the ways to multiply the effects of our meditation is by utilizing Pyramid Energy. Research has shown that Pyramid energy can be utilized for Preservation, healing and for going into altered states of consciousness during meditation.
Pyramids are store houses of cosmic energy.The structural design of a Pyramid consists of three-dimensional triangles, with large bases tapering towards the top and four faces with a 'golden angle of inclination' of 51 degrees and 51 minutes. Our thoughts create our reality. "YadbhavamTadbhavati". Higher thoughts create higher realities. Dense and lower thoughts create lower realities.Our emotions follow the thought process.Happy and positive thoughts create happy and positive emotions whereas sad and negative thoughts create sad and negative emotions.Emotion is nothing but energy which is set in motion. When an emotion arises in us, our body starts resonating to the frequency of that emotion.
Emotional vibration is fundamental to manifestation. Feelings and emotions that are sustained by us attract similar outcomes in our life.We are all creators and when we meditate we become more conscious of how we are creating our life.

Spiritual Quotient can be defined as having an understanding of five grand statements: I am everyone and everyone is me. I have unlimited potential in me. My reality is created by me with my thoughts and feelings. There is abundance everywhere. There is a higher intelligence that is always waiting to assist me.
When we understand that everyone is ‘me’ and ‘us’, We move from separateness to oneness. We understand that we are connected to each other in the one energy field and we have a higher tendency to help everyone. It doesn’t matter how others react; we just want to help. We don’t judge anyone.
When we feel unlimited potential, we readily challenge ourselves with new initiatives without fear. We move from fixed mindset to growth mindset and understand that the field has unlimited possibilities. We stop bothering if someone doesn't help us. We feel confident about ourselves and we are always ready to help.
When we have a highly developed SQ, all other intelligence automatically get added to us. SQ is developed only through sincere meditation practice and expanding ourselves with the right spiritual knowledge.

The best companion for meditation is reading books. When we read right books, we expand our consciousness. When we expand our consciousness, we increase our experiences of life. With each new experience, we gain newer happiness. The more we experience, the more we understand ourselves, the more joyful we become, and the more contended we become. Meditation helps us to read more, learn more and experience more of that knowledge.
Right books to read are all the books about Spiritual Science. Any number of books have been written about Spiritual Science by several world spiritual masters. Everything in the universe has a purpose. The companies that we create have a purpose. The communities we form have a purpose. Our innovations such as the phone, TV and car have clear purpose. Similarly, each and everyone of us have a purpose. When we understand our purpose, it becomes easy for us to set our goals at work, at home, in our social circles and so on. What is purpose of life and how to find that?
Purpose of life at any point in our life, can be broadly defined as a set of activities that when carried out, one finds deep satisfaction and fulfilment and their life meaningful. It need not always be our primary job/work role. For e.g., A person in his sales role currently at a company finds deep satisfaction in everything he is doing and well aligned. In another case, a person may be working at the company in a specific role, but her deep internal happiness is found while playing for a classical music band in the community. In another case, an individual may have taken to service in a specific place due to family tradition, but always enjoys traveling to far away places much more than anything else. In each of these cases, the real fulfilment is coming from a set of activities, and they are aligned to the job role in some cases, and not aligned in some other cases.
Purpose of life is different for different people. While there is an overarching purpose for every life, most often, what we do towards the life purpose is not fixed for the whole life. It is constantly being revealed as “the next exciting things to do” as one progresses in life. One may find himself/herself doing different type of activity every few years, yet constantly aligning to the life purpose, which is made known to us when we connect the dots after the fact. In exceptional cases, purpose of life becomes very clear to some people from early age and they are fixated in doing that for the whole life time such as few grand masters like Ramana Maharshi who had the calling from a very young age. At fundamental level, purpose of life is to learn and enjoy. With every new learning, we experience “new”, leading to more enjoyment. That’s the nature of the consciousness. Learning without enjoyment can not be sustained and will lead to boredom. Enjoyment without learning will be stagnation and will turn into boredom and regret. As we meditate regularly, we recognize that we are here to experience “new”, and seek a change to whatever we do at regular intervals throughout our life.
Ikigai means “A reason to jump out of bed every morning” or “Finding the purpose your life”. Once you discover your Ikigai, pursuing it and nurturing it every day will bring meaning to your life. It is unique for everyone. Ikigai is much more than a passion or profession. If one has a sense of purpose in life, the concept of retirement does not matter.
People who live the longest have a positive attitude and a high degree of emotional awareness. Meditation is helping them in slowing down the mind. It helps to appreciate the more important as well as the finer aspects of life. The happiest people in the world are not the ones who achieve the most. They are the ones who spend more time than others in a state of ‘flow’, taking small steps at a time and cultivating a habit of discipline, the state in which people are so involved in an activity; the experience itself is quite enjoyable.
A key point to gaining clarity about our life purpose is to never waste time and always jump-in and do something. We do not wait for purpose to be revealed or fully understood. Instead, we jump-in to do something. Our intent is more important and meditation gives strength to the intent. It is usually not money, resources or time that stop us from finding our purpose. It is a lack of intent that prevents us from aligning to our purpose.
To further identify what is important to us, we can make a vision board to put down a prioritized list of goals on it. While developing the vision board, ask this question – “what do I want to do if I have less than one year (or less than 6 months / 3 months.) left in my life?”. From this list, we chose activities / goals that align to our abilities.
Finally, when manifesting any of the goals from our vision board, we must always work out of our comfort zone. Take up small concrete goals, execute one task at a time and go into the detail in execution. This will help us go into a flow. It will help us understand what excites us and what does not leading us towards more clarity.
Many a times, we also gain clarity from the purpose of our parents. What did they stand for in their whole life leadership, community service, hard work? We may find specific patterns in them, some of which often reflect in our purpose.
Thus, meditation gives us much needed clarity and helps us find our current purpose. When the purpose is still not clear, one can attempt to take up something new, and test going into the flow by visualization and execution.
Mindfulness is simply focusing on our moment-to-moment experience. A key aspect of mindfulness is stepping outside of the 'doing' mode and entering into the 'being' mode. In this 'being' mode, we are not trying to fix anything. We are not trying to go anywhere. We are not trying to do anything. It is the basic human ability to be fully aware of where we are and what we’re doing non-judgmentally, and not overly react or be overwhelmed by what’s going on around us.
With mindful thinking, we are not judgmental about events and people. We are more attuned to our senses and are always noticing our thoughts and emotions.
With mindful talking, we are aware of what we speak and, speak only if it is relevant and feel there is real value to add in a group.
With mindful eating and sleeping, we are fully present in what we eat. We appreciate the food, the people and setting.
With mindful action, we reduce unwanted activities like watching unnecessary or excessive TV. We eliminate unwanted time spent on reading news papers, and limit our reading to what is most relevant.

We are made up of five bodies: Physical body, Mind, Intellect, Energy body (Individual consciousness), and “All that is” (Infinite Quantum Energy Field or Universal consciousness). We need to nourish all these bodies for perfect health. Meditation nourishes the Energy body directly and all other bodies indirectly. In addition to meditation, unconditional Service to others is the best way to nourish ‘all that is’ , and helps us gain that perfect health !
A beautiful representation of this wholesome world can be visualized with our fingers: little finger – Physical body, ring finger – Mind, middle finger – Intellect, index finger – Energy body, thumb – All that is.
We use the index finger to identify someone or something. Thus rightfully, the index finger represents the Energy body which is the grander self of our Physical body, as we are 99.99% energy and only 0.01% matter (physical). Meditation nourishes the Energy body directly.
With regular meditation, reading and listening to others’ experiences, we keep developing our Intellect i.e., spiritual intelligence to live life in the grandest possible way. Intellect is the ability to discern between right and wrong. Mind is a product of culture,environment and upbringing which possess several limiting beliefs and fears.
In the physical world, the best way to nourish our Physical body is through a plant based diet. Vegetables and Fruits make it easy on the Physical body. The best form of nourishment to our Mind is through art, music and dance. We gain peace of Mind quickly through these infinite forms of enjoyment. The best way to nourish our Intellect is by reading the right spiritual books. The best way to nourish the Energy body is through meditation.
Finally, the best way to nourish “All that is” is by doing Service to everyone and everything around. We recognize that even Service to others is really a Service for ourselves as it gives us greater contentment and fulfilment. Hence we need to perform Service unconditionally just the way we do all other activities.
With unconditional Service, we develop divergent thinking and become more open to possibilities and ideas. Service helps us to subside the "I" or the ego as we work with people from all walks of life and truly learn to live as one among many. Service makes our own problems look smaller as we get exposed to others’ problems that are often much larger. This enables us to stop complaining about life, accept and be grateful for what we have.
Psyche is the product of total understandings, beliefs, perceptions and behaviors based on one’s past experiences. Psyche is the conditioning of our body and mind, carried over from ages. Psychosomatic disorders are the physical illnesses in the body due to the limited development of the Psyche or the limiting Intellect. All mental stressors such as anxieties, fears, worries are all part of the limited development of the Psyche, and are a significant cause for several body illnesses. These are also called lifestyle disorders.
Any meditation program focused on "knowing oneself " necessitates a lot of emphasis on the practice itself. A student learns best by sincerity, depth of practice and the knowledge of the teacher. The journey of a practitioner can be enhanced significantly by following a few best practices.
Give importance to more meditation practice: In each of the meditation sessions, it’s important that adequate amount of time is allocated for practicing meditation. Because one’s individual deep meditation practice can direct him/her to right next steps as meditation is a very intelligent process. Allocate at least 50% or more time for meditation.
