Overview
Working with software to create ortho mosaics can provide flexibility and significant time savings. Many organizations choose to order imagery from a commercial vendor and perform the corrections to the data themselves. 

Who is the intended audience?
If you are responsible for the production of ortho mosaics, or have an interest in creating ortho mosaics for your project or your organization, this course will teach you how to use Geomatica, which will provide all the tools you need to create highly accurate and perfectly color balanced mosaics.

What Materials will be used?
Students will be able to work with a licensed version of Geomatica as well as sample data sets to follow along with the instructor. Students are expected to install Geomatica on their computer and work with a copy of the data which will be provided.

How long will it take me to complete the course?
The course materials (videos) run for 35 minutes. You will likely play the videos several times and review certain steps. The expected time to complete the course is 2-3 hours.

  • Unless you have a role or interest in processing imagery, this course is probably not for you.

In this lesson, we'll use Python to create an XML file that can be used by multiple people to edit the same mosaic. The multi-user mosaic editing tool ensures only one person is working on each part of the mosaic. You can therefore assign multiple quality assurance staff to make edits to the overall mosaic.

Editing the mosaic and making adjustments prior to final export

The mosaic editing tool is a great way to interactively make edits to the mosaic and see what the final result will look like when the full resolution mosaic is created. We will show you how to follow a logical editing process, which starts with setting the overall color balancing across the entire mosaic, making scene / scene level edits, and then drilling down to make dodging point level edits to smaller adjustements.

Exporting the final mosaic and making final adjustments

Once you and your team are happy with the mosaic edits and that you have saved the changes in the mosaic editing tool, it's time to export the full resolution version of the mosaic. If you think more improvements are needed you can always go back to the mosaic editor, make additional changes in trouble areas, and re-run the mosaic export.

Even after you have exported the final mosaic, you can use some tools in Focus such as the Smart GeoFill tool to make small adjustments to overexposed areas, or perhaps cloud patching (picking a image with no clouds of the same location and pasting it in to the final mosaic).

Mr. Jones has successfully rebranded PCI as the provider of scalable, high speed image processing solutions, and played a key role in developing and supporting business partner relations with Esri, Blackbridge, MDA, RapidEye, and over 30 of PCI's International resellers. Mr. Jones implemented the use of social media and the created PCI TV, which has helped to reinforce PCI Geomatics as a leading supplier of software solutions to the global market. In addition, he has lead web seminar production and delivery, international tradeshow strategy/presence, organized and hosted domestic events, and worked with top level executive staff within the company to implement  numerous internal and external programs.
