Here is a quick over view of the course.
ZBrush Online Course Sculpting "The Fly"
In this lecture we will look at the reference material we will be using during the course.
ZBrush Online Course Sculpting "The Fly"
It is important rather than jumping straight into it to think how we are going to model our FLY let talk about model breakup.
ZBrush Online Course Sculpting "The Fly"
Lets now start to set up the Head/Eye section to do this we will use basic tools inside ZBrush.
ZBrush Online Course Sculpting "The Fly"
Lets use the same method to create the Thorax or mid body and the Abdomen or bottom section of the fly, we will use the same method as the Head section, it important to remember that in any kind of 3D modelling we start simple and work up the detail these steps mean it is easy to make changes and ensure the shape and form is good throughout the modelling/sculpting process.
ZBrush Online Course Sculpting "The Fly"
In order for us to work unrestricted by subdivion levels we will use Dynamesh this will make it easier to sculpt.
ZBrush Online Course Sculpting "The Fly"
Now we will focus on getting the shape scale and proportions correct, its important to set this early on, although we can and will change things later.
ZBrush Online Course Sculpting "The Fly"
Further tweaking in Zbrush to get it on track.
ZBrush Online Course Sculpting "The Fly"
In this lecture we will work on the head using commonly used modelling methods we will start to model the head, this will be the basis right through the course, take you time with this speed will come with time!
ZBrush Online Course Sculpting "The Fly"
Initially I was going to model the eyes direct into the head but I have changed my mind as I wanted the eyes to be really high detail it was necessary to have them as separate sub tools this allows me to up the subdivisions considerably more than if it was one head unit!
ZBrush Online Course Sculpting "The Fly"
Now we have separate eyes I need to create an eye socket for the head section we built earlier.
ZBrush Online Course Sculpting "The Fly"
Now I need to create a set of UVs for our eyes (basically UVs are co-ordinates on a surface allowing you to flatten out your model so textures can be applied) As I want to create a highly detailed Hexagonal pattern across the eyes the best method is to create and apply a texture, that why I need to create UVs.
ZBrush Online Course Sculpting "The Fly"
Now we have the UVs we need to export this out as a texture lets do it!
ZBrush Online Course Sculpting "The Fly"
You can use any image editing program to produce textures in this case I will use Photoshop to create my Hexagonal texture for the eyes, and show you how to see this on the eyes in Zbrush!
ZBrush Online Course Sculpting "The Fly"
We will come back to the Eyes later lets now start some basic sculpting on the body or Thorax section of the fly.
ZBrush Online Course Sculpting "The Fly"
I will now show you how to use masking to sculpt we will use this in conjunction with deformation, I use this toolset a lot it really handy!
ZBrush Online Course Sculpting "The Fly"
Lets return back to the head and polish and refine.
TIP: Do you notice how I am not at this stage staying on one part too long? this is so I keep the project fresh we are trying to build it all up at the same time, this is an often used technique, move over your model not hanging on one area, check the silhouette and form as you work often!
ZBrush Online Course Sculpting "The Fly"
During this lecture we will take the sub tools out of Dynamesh and I will show you how to recreate the subdivision levels using a mixture of ZRemesher and Projected detailing.
ZBrush Online Course Sculpting "The Fly"
Jumping back to the Eye we will use the texture we created earlier and generate geometry using masking from this texture!
ZBrush Online Course Sculpting "The Fly"
Over the next few lessons we will focus on the Thorax. Lets sculpt!
ZBrush Online Course Sculpting "The Fly"
We continue to add more detail using various methods.
ZBrush Online Course Sculpting "The Fly"
Lets finish off the details and then add thicker hairs to the Thorax, this will start to bring the model to life a bit more.
ZBrush Online Course Sculpting "The Fly"
We started the hairs in the last lesson lets get into creating more hairs in this hair production lecture.
ZBrush Online Course Sculpting "The Fly"
OK so this is a new approach what we will do is unwrap the Abdomens UVs like we did for the eys earlier however i want to also use polypaint to output a guide for us to texture to, another great way to produce guide lines on a texture exported from ZBrush!
ZBrush Online Course Sculpting "The Fly"
OK so lets create our texture map in Photoshop and import and apply it as a mask back in ZBrush.
ZBrush Online Course Sculpting "The Fly"
Lets detail the Abdomen section now!
ZBrush Online Course Sculpting "The Fly"
Fibre mesh is extremely powerful we can generate hairs, spikes, straight and curly hair very quickly all though not covered we can also groom the hair and style is as well, just as a note I will be doing a course on fibremesh very soon!
ZBrush Online Course Sculpting "The Fly"
Lets switch back to the head again and carry on refining.
ZBrush Online Course Sculpting "The Fly"
Same as the Thorax hairs lets reuse those hairs for the mouth!
ZBrush Online Course Sculpting "The Fly"
I will show you now how to use textures to do a mesh extraction from a flat plane, we will also use a texture of a wing to pull out some details.
ZBrush Online Course Sculpting "The Fly"
Lets examine the legs before we start them.
ZBrush Online Course Sculpting "The Fly"
With all ZBrush sculpting there are a ton of ways of doing the same thing, as this is a course I am going to take you into the world of ZSpheres! an easy way to generate a base mesh of the legs, from these we can start to sculpt!
ZBrush Online Course Sculpting "The Fly"
Lets finish the legs, we will remesh these using zremesher as we did before!
ZBrush Online Course Sculpting "The Fly"
OK we will now finish off the legs they need a little bit of polishing and tweaking.
ZBrush Online Course Sculpting "The Fly"
Lets use the front leg to create the remaining legs I will also show you how to change and alter the legs using masking and translation tools.
Finally we will mirror these new legs to the other side.
ZBrush Online Course Sculpting "The Fly"

Learn to Sculpt and model professionally with this ZBrush Online Course Sculpting "The Fly"
I cannot wait to introduce this course to you I had loads of fun creating this for you ZBrush fans its packed full of features, before we get into that I just wanted to tell you why I chose this subject "The Fly"
Why a FLY? well its not because it was swallowed by a spider!
This is a great subject as it has elements of hardsurface as well as organic forms within it, it also have very fine almost microscopic detail (anyone familar with my courses will realise I love micro level details and forms), this lends itself well to a training course
Who the course for?
This course is for anyone who has already used Zbrush although I cover everything you must know how to move around in ZBrush, if you buy this course and get stuck message me.
Some of what we will learn!
Right the important stuff what you will learn during this course
Sure your agree a very packed course so be prepared to learn a lot of stuff!!
Can't wait for your feedback on this course please contact me if your stuck or if I need to cover something more closely student feedback is very important to me, and if you don't give me 5 stars I want to know why! no really I do :)
enjoy this ZBrush Online Course Sculpting "The Fly"!
