Getting ready

In this lecture we will prepare the model for fibres, and hide any unnecessary sub tools.

First look at fibremesh

In this lecture I want to go over very quickly some of the techniques these will ground you for the future lectures.

We will look at

• Effect of masking on fibres
• Polygroupings effect on fibres
• Producting our first fibres
• Gravity to have or not

Starting with a clean slate

I love to set my initial fibres to zero meaning i Have all the options set to zero, so lets do this it will make it easier for me to show you the effect the modifiers have on the initial set.

I will also show you how to save out and import fibre sets, and how to use lightbox to grab a starting point.

Modifiers

Lets go over the modifiers in the fibremesh panel and also look how we can control the fibremesh polygroups, with auto masking.

Brushes and polygroups

Lets look at the common brushes we will use for grooming the hair and Fur.

Eyebrow

OK ready???

Lets start and finish the eyebrows.

Creating the beard

using the same techniques as the eyebrows lets create the beard we will use some variation here to give a better effect.

Eyelashes

Lets focus on the bottom eyelashes.

Finishing the eyelashes

In this lecture we will manipulate the bottom eyelash and use it to create the top one, we will then mirror the eyelashes across to the other side.

Keep it clean

Before we move on to the Fur lets just polish up the eyebrows and beard.

Low sub div version

In this course we will take an existing subtool and create a low res version for creating our fibres from.

Lets set up our fur polygroup

We need to define where the fibres are extruding from lets do it using a polygroup.

Back and Top Coat

For the fur I want to create some underlying fur before applying the top coat, so we end up with a difference in the two fibres this adds interest and makes it look even more detailed.

Textures

Lets get some textures together for the next lesson.

Applying textures

Often used for game models we will create fibres that have a texture applied to them, this same techniques can be used to create cards for texturing a low poly version for game.

The head polygrouping

OK on to the head lets set up our polygroups for the Hair.

Refining our groups based on a test

Testing testing and more testing!

Some times there is the need to add extra polygroups as demoed here, I needed a bit more control specially over the front forehead, so it was necessary to add more poly groups.

Curly Hair

Starting with a few hairs we will define the curly hair look it will give us a good starting pint before we move on to grooming.

Let's do it

Now we will finish our initial fibres for the back, side and front of the head.

Front Hair set

Lets first concentrate on the front Hair sets.

Lets look at a few brushes we can use to get the desired look we want to achieve.

Character Modifications

I wanted to make some changes to the character, Although not part of the course I thought I would include this anyway so you guys can get a unique look to your character.

Creating a Mohawk

In this lecture I show you how quick it is to create a Mohawk, we will also create a side cut side hair as well.

Driving fibres

We already know masking can drive the fibres and the softness can effect the length, so with that in mind we could use a texture as an alpha to drive hair out of a pattern, lets do it!

Beard 2

Lets create a different kind of beard and also play with the Fibre BPR settings, an important part of ZBrush.
