  • Origins1:24

This module looks into the generally accepted versions of the ancient origins of Yoga. Since the philosophy and practice of Yoga pre-dates common recorded history from a time of oral transmission, precise, verifiably accurate accounting is quite problematic.

External links and downloadable pdf's are given here for both Origins and History of Yoga in the following module.

  • History3:27

This lecture looks at a brief history of Yoga, covering the four main era's with detail about each one. Modern styles and schools are included as are important figures of the Yoga world, both ancient and new.

  • Astanga2:15

Patanjali's eight limb 'astanga' path is covered in some detail. The importance of a balanced practice is discussed with relevance to modern day life and most vitally, not losing sight of the deeper essence of Yoga. The resouces section contains the full audio version of Patanjali's Yoga Sutra's narrated by Paul Carlos.

  • Philosophy5:47

This lecture moves us deeper into the practical philosophy of Yoga with reference to Yoga Meditation, Patajali, Contemplation and Relaxation practice, Samyama and more.

  • Lifestyle5:22

Looks at ways in which we can make a regular Yoga practice meaningful within the context of our daily lives. How and why we should consider living a more spiritually based life and more. Included are guided meditation mp3's  for mood improvement, creating your inner sacred space and a subliminal audio for adjusting to a healthier lifestyle.

  • Ancient Yoga Texts6:52

Yoga has a number of important ancient sacred texts that form a vital backbone to it's philosophy and practice. We cover some of these foundational texts with various additional resources.

  • Sanskrit Glossary - Video and Documents13:34

Sanskrit is a language of ancient India with a 3,500-year history. It is the primary liturgical language of Hinduism and the predominant language of most works of Hindu philosophy as well as some of the principal texts of Buddhism and Jainism. This section gives a Glossary both audio and text to help get you started with basic pronunciation and meanings for elementary class. I have included some external pdf docs that are relevant.

  • Yoga as a path of self-realisation1:38

This lecture aims to focus us in a summary of Yoga as a path to self-realisation and what this means in the greater scheme of life, death and consciousness.

  • Assignment - Category 10:55

Assignment to check your retention of the material so far for your own benefit.

Requirements

  • Average level of health and fitness
  • Keen Yoga student and practitioner
