Thank you for purchasing this course! The activities and system that I share I've been using in classes with kids for years. It is important to go over how to do all of them so that you have enough activities to fill up a 30 minute class. I find often with smaller groups activities don't take as long versus in larger classes we might not get to all the activities I had planned. It's all about being flexible and able to think on your feet. Don't worry though, we'll go over everything!
The group of children that I have videotaped for this course is one of the most challenging that I've ever taught. Often kids will be well behaved, listen to instructions and follow along. This is not always the case and I think that it's helpful for you to see how classes go that are more challenging. I find using the bell and things like counting to 3 particularly useful to keep control of the class. Don't worry, there are always the classroom teachers to help with discipline.
Set realistic expectations for teaching kids yoga, as every class differs; practice patience, flexibility, and adapt to each group's energy, with positive reinforcement to keep learners engaged.
Explore essential props for kids yoga, including a first-aid kit with Band-Aids and ice packs, yoga and animal cards, stickers, and pinwheels to boost engagement and safety.
This video shows you how you can begin and end class. These are guidelines and I suggest modifying in whatever way feels most comfortable and natural for you! It can be challenging to get the children to rest quietly and sometimes if a couple kids are talking or touching I separate them or lie in between them. Know that most likely there will be noises and movements during relaxation and as long as it's not too disruptive I don't mind it.
Use pinwheels to teach breathing techniques and relaxation in kids yoga, with clear expectations, pose setup, and prop management for classes up to 25.
Guide kids through the birthday candles breathing activity, using slow breathing, counting to three, and optional one- or two-hand candle blows, then a mindfulness moment for peace.
