In this video, I will give you an overview of Year By Design and share a bit of my personal story behind why I created this course in the first place. The downloadable materials include the tools you will need on hand in the following lessons: Life Alignment Wheel, Week Map, Future You Exercise, and Quarterly Check-In Worksheets.
In order to move forward with intention, we have to get clear about where we're starting from. The Wheel of Life exercise will help you do that.
Let's reflect on your Wheel of Life. This video contains some questions for reflection. Take time to write your answers in your Year By Design workbook or in your own journal.
In this lesson, you will look back on the past year and consider how you spent your time. Using your calendar as a reference, what do you want more of, less of, or the same amount of in the coming year? What is taking up the limited real estate on your calendar?
In this lesson, we will do the same exercise we just did, only this time, we're doing it with regard to your finances.
Here are some questions for reflection on your finances.
A vital part of living with intention is getting clear on what we want. This includes what we want to do, and who we want to spend time with. In this section, we will prioritize the people and projects we want to focus on going forward.
For this section, you will need a printed Week Map.
The first step in completing your Week Map is to block out your ideal sleep hours. Adequate sleep is fundamental to overall wellness, so we prioritize it!
The next step in completing your Week Map is to block out your ideal meal times. Nutrition is key to overall wellness, but too often, busy people don't plan ahead and end up relying on quick and convenient choices that are not always the healthiest options! Part of being proactive with our health involves being intentional about meals.
Now it's time to plug in your recurring appointments. These can be personal or work-related. Any appointments you have on a regular basis need real estate on your calendar! This is also where you will refer to your More, Less, Same list. How might you need to edit your commitments going forward?
Some might call it "buffer" or "margin," but I call it "White Space," blocks of time on your calendar with nothing scheduled. By blocking out time for white space, you give yourself room to breathe, space for things that inevitably come up, and the freedom to be flexible with your time.
In this section, we will take everything from Parts 1 and 2 and create a plan for the year ahead. You will need your calendar and the exercises we did in Parts 1 and 2.
Now it's time to create your plan for the year! In this section, you will start plugging in your priorities on the calendar, securing real estate for the things that matter most. For this, you will need your calendar (paper, electronic or both!) and your "More, Less, Same" lists.
One way to ensure you stay on track with your goals is to schedule quarterly reviews. In this section, we will schedule out reviews in March, June, September, and December.
Systems, Routines, Resources, and Strategic Relationships are the secret to efficient time management and living in alignment with your priorities. In this section, I'll help you identify and establish some habits that will simplify decision-making and create life rhythms you can maintain throughout the year.
In this video, I get to the heart of what Year By Design is all about: taking an intentional approach to how you spend your time, money, and other resources in order to live aligned with your priorities and feel a deep sense of joy. This is what it's all about!
Thank you for participating in Year By Design!
