In this course you will learn about Civil 3D Alignments and how to work with them. The exercise files are based on metric version and Civil 3D 2018 version has been used to create the exercise files.

Requirements

  • You need to be having some basic understanding of the Civil 3D software interface. The knowledge on AutoCAD would be added advantage.

Description

Auto CAD Civil 3D is a vastly used design software. One major component of Civil 3D is Civil 3D Alignments.

You create alignments as a combination of lines, curves, and spirals that are viewed as one single object.

Alignment objects can represent road centerlines, pipe networks, and other construction baselines. Creating and defining a horizontal alignment is one of the first steps in roadway, railroad, or site design. You can draw the alignment geometry in various methods. For greater control, you can create an alignment object using the Alignment Layout Tools.

Alignments can be stand-alone objects or the parent object of profiles, sections, and corridors. If you edit an alignment, the changes are automatically reflected in any related objects because of the dynamic nature of Civil 3D.

In this course, you will learn how to work with Civil 3D Alignments. We will be discussing the following through the course.

Introduction to Alignment

Understanding Alignment Styles & Alignment Label Styles and adding alignment labels

Create Alignment from objects

Alignment Creation tools (Fix, Free and Floating Entities)

Create Alignment from Tangent & Curves

Use of Spirals in Alignments

Create Alignment from existing Alignment

Modify Alignment to suit our requirements

Alignment Creation with Criteria Based Design

Add Mask To Alignment

Station Equation on Alignments

Negative Stationing & Reference Point

Create offset Alignment

Add Widening to Offset Alignment

Create Report From Alignment

The software I use in this course is Civil 3D 2018. For each section, there will be a practice file for you to practice on your own. These files are compatible with older versions of Civil 3D up to version 2014.
