This preview video will give you a few reasons why VideoJoe will be going through all the effort to fix a few things on existing doors prior to removing the doors to get them ready for painting at his Condo rehab project.
Do you know what a sagging door is & what it looks like & how to go about fixing a sagging door? You will if you sign up for this video course.
Would you know why it's important not to paint before fixing sagging doors? I tell you when you get ready to paint your doors & frames, it's all about the prep first. Even if you have decided to leave it to the experts to paint your doors & frames, do you think a professional painter is going to stop & fix all your sagging doors & making needed adjustments to door stops, etc. before he has his guys start painting your doors? I doubt it. If you wanted him to do this it's going to cost you extra!
That's what this video is for. For you to learn what types of things to check on doors before letting the painters go at it & YOU can be the person checking your doors & fixing door sags & door warps, etc. before the painters come in...if in fact you decide not to paint your own doors.
I have a secret for you. I also have a video course that will teach you how to paint your doors on your own & if you decided to sign up for that course you would save a ton of money with painting your doors for sure.
VideoJoe will be showing you a couple of issues just on a few doors he will look at & I believe the Condo he is working in has 5 doors on the main ground floor & do you know that he had to work on every single one of those doors before he took the doors down to paint?
As I recall there is also another 7 single doors upstairs & he worked on 6 of those meaning there was only one little storage closet door that was sitting exactly where it was suppose to before taking the door down to paint. That's what this video is for...to alert & show you all the things you can & should check on your doors & frames prior to painting your doors.
Even if you thought you were just an average Joe & you really don't know that much about DIY (do it yourself) & you're just a beginner with knowing how to fix things around the house, did you know that's exactly the kind of person VideoJoe made this video course for?
In fact you will see that VideoJoe has been busy creating other video courses too & all the courses he creates are for the DIY beginner in mind for sure so you can relax & know this video course is for you!
Take a chance on you & sign up for this course!
On this video you will see VideoJoe checking on the doors on the second floor in this Condo rehab as well as looking at a door down on main ground floor too. Here's what you need to know. Just because you want to paint your doors doesn't mean just run down to the hardware store & pick up some paint & slap it on your doors.
It's a process to paint your doors & frames & it starts with looking at all of your existing conditions for how your doors look, how they close, how they operate, etc. before taking down the doors to repaint them.
VideoJoe will also be checking the door hinges on a different video coming up & you will be amazed at what he finds & you will want to immediately look at your doors to see if what VideoJoe is saying is true (that will be coming up later).
If you are planning on re-painting your doors you might also want to consider replacing all your door hinges, door handles, & door stops too. Chances are if your doors need re-painting then I am thinking your doors are at least 12 to 15 years old or older meaning the door handles & door hinges are at least that old or older.
Take a look at your door handles. Do they all operate properly? Do the ones that lock do they lock good still? Is the color of the door handles worn or do they still look like they are in pretty good condition? These are the types of things to consider if you are planning on painting your doors.
To go one step further if you are in fact ready to paint your doors, now might be the time to pick a new door handle color or style that fits with your existing conditions better or will just make things look a little nicer seems as the doors will be freshly painted.
with saying all this of course if you then decide to replace the all the door hinges & door handles & door stops, it's going to cost that much more to pay for everything. That's exactly why I make my video courses! If you are the one doing all the work then that means you won't be paying a professional construction worker to do all the things you need to have done around the house. You will now be able to start working on things on your own & know that you can do it too, seems as though you have seen VideoJoe do a few things & he makes it look pretty easy showing step by step instructions how to do all kinds of things that you will now be able to do on your own...starting with working on your doors & painting your doors too! (ah I have a video course for painting doors too!)
On this video you will see how VideoJoe will tackle some door repairs for that warped door in the little pantry closet next to the kitchen. Good grief...no wonder he made this video course!
Yes if you take your time you can remove the door stop without breaking it or damaging it so you can reuse the door stop. I can't tell you how many times I've seen someone just rip off the door stop so they now have to replace the door stop with some new.
Yes it takes some time to carefully remove an existing door stop & once you remove it you have to know the proper way to remove the nails in the door stop then you have to carefully remove the caulking on the door stop because you will be reusing the door stop.
Once you watch this video you will now know more than before you watched it!
VideoJoe hates to spend money on things he knows he can reuse.
Now VideoJoe needs to decide what type of nails to use to reattach the door stop back into the position needed.
Once he gets done with installing the door stop he will then need to caulk the door stop & he'll show you that too as well as what type of caulking to use since this is an important step for sure.
These are the types of things you may need to do with some of your doors prior to painting them. He'll also show you how to adjust an existing door strike plate.
Hey the more you watch the more you learn...that's just how it works.
VideoJoe will show you his progress for making repairs to this the warped door & I think you would agree that this door looks way better than if he didn't do anything to this door & just painted the door instead.
Now is VideoJoe done with this door? No. He's taking a closer look to the opening & closing of the door & sees something else he should get taken care of & it's really easier to take care of it now than wait until all the doors have been repainted.
VideoJoe likes to handle new doors the least bit he can so as not to mark, scratch, or damage a freshly painted door. That's why he will take care of this door sag now (next video). Yes the door is slightly sagging but not hitting the door jamb toward the top so why fix the door sag you might ask.
Well in the future VideoJoe never wants to worry about the fact if the floor settles or the door settles then the door sag will get worse & worse over time, & eventually have a chance to start rubbing the top edge portion of the door jamb. When this happens then of course the door jamb will get marked up from the door as well as the top edge portion of the door the paint will mark & rub off & we don't want that!
Whenever VideoJoe works on doors, he thinks about the door gap & what to do to fix lesser door gaps so in the future there will not be an issue. Yes it will take a few minutes to fix a sagging door but well worth it in the long run.
Speaking of door sags, once a door sags then you may have an issue with the door latch fitting into the door strike plate too. Sometimes yes & sometimes no. Another reason to fix door sags.
VideoJoe is getting ready to fix this sagging door. He will give you all the steps required in order to fix a sagging door.
With these repairs, once VideoJoe gets done you would never know he even worked on this door sag at all. That's the point.
When you walk up to a door you make the assumption that the door works properly opening & closing & not hitting or rubbing or closing or locking. That's the point of doing all this work on these doors before painting because the end result is to have the doors looking & operating like they were brand new without anyone thinking you had to fix this or that on a door & no wonder there's marks here & screw holes there or repair blobs over here.
Do you really want to explain to anyone why you had to fix this or that door? I don't either.
VideoJoe always likes to be prepared when he knows he's going to be working on doors like doors sags. Thus the reason for the different drill bits & the different type of drills needed.
If you're paying attention to details like VideoJoe, it will make you a better DIY'er for sure. Take pride in your work.
Does VideoJoe get a door sag fixed the very first time? No...but that won't stop him from fixing a sagging door the way he wants it too look.
It's also important to know that on all pre-existing doors, there's only so much you can do with fixing sagging doors depending how the installer installed it, where the door shims are located, how well the door installer leveled & squared up a door.
Work to the best of your ability & learn as you go what to do differently on the next sagging door. don't just go in there like a bull in a china shop. Take the time & do the needed steps in order to fix a sagging door where no one would ever know you touched that door at all.
Notice the drill VideoJoe is using & why.
You're learning!
VideoJoe is now complete with fixing the warped/sagging door & yes he will still caulk the door stop before painting the door frame but everything else looks in order for how the door operates & how the door looks.
Onward to the bathroom door & it appears that the issue is similar to the door he just fixed but watch this video so you can learn more & play it in your head for how you would go about fixing this door.
Would you fix it the same way VideoJoe will show you?
I hope you are liking the way VideoJoe is showing you & presenting this video course to you? This is pretty much how he makes all his video courses so if you see another video course that I have on my site just know it's set up for the DIY (do it yourself) beginner who wants to save their money.
This door is pretty much fixed enough to now be able to take this door down to paint. But before the door comes down VideoJoe will carefully look to see what else might be needed to fix this entire door & he can now make the decision that all the other work needed on this door can be completed after the door is all painted & re-installed.
Make sure to watch this video because VideoJoe will be giving you some good info for your existing doors. If your door hinges are spitting, then you will need to be very aware of this so you can look at all your doors before removing them to paint, so you can clean as needed & you will also see what you can use to clean the black dust.
This black dust will probably be on the backside of the door & on the edge of your door stop. Take a look & see. Once more thing you will need to do before painting your doors!
Here's something else...if you are planning to reuse your existing door hinges after painting your doors...listen up & watch this video!
I hope you are enjoying the video course thus far. Are you?
VideoJoe will now be showing you a few more things on two more doors for things still needing to be done.
He will be showing you a front door too & it might surprise you as to what you are going to learn & I will wager you didn't know this before! Do you really think VideoJoe can fix this front door?
Well...you will find out on the next video...
You will see that anything worthwhile requires effort. VideoJoe will show you how he will be going about fixing this front door. Funny thing the door is rubbing but in fact this door does not appear to be sagging. What gives?!!
Haha as I said I never know what VideoJoe will say next because he is going upstairs looking at other doors on this video too!
As for the front door...would you believe the work that VideoJoe does to fix the door gap, you would never know he ever worked on the door at all when he gets done? True story..
As you will see, you will learn the steps required in order to fix a front door that really isn't sagging per se, just that the door gap when closing the door looks to be the same all the way down, so this front door really is not sagging & fixing this door requires a slightly different way since you will see that you need to do the same work at each hinge unlike how you would go about just fixing an interior sagging door per se.
Working on front doors is a little more difficult than working on interior doors in that the front door is generally a lot heavier type of door than your interior doors.
You will see how VideoJoe works on heavy doors on his own without any help from anyone. don't let that stop you if you're there by yourself working on your doors. You can do it!
It might take some effort for sure depending on where the existing door shims are for how far you can go to fix a door gap on a front door as well as what type of drill to use too.
Keep it going...
VideoJoe is now going to work on a heavy door that goes between the Condo & the garage. Now these doors are different since these types of doors are called a 20 minute rated door for fire. with this type of door it requires spring loaded door hinges to close the door so of course VideoJoe will have to deal with these spring loaded hinges in order to fix the door sag on this door too.
The joys of working on doors but all this kind of stuff will need to be addressed & repaired prior to painting your doors. Go the extra mile & do things right & that's what I hope you're learning by watching this video course!
If you caught that...this door is heavy but VideoJoe has the exact tools to use in order for no need for anyone helping him with this door fix.
VideoJoe will now work on removing the top door hinge in order to fix this door sag. does the work VideoJoe is showing does it look very similar to one of the other doors he showed you from before?
Most of the time your work to fix most sagging doors will be similar to how VideoJoe is showing you to fix this sagging door...but not always. Most of the time though he uses this same technique to fix most of the sagging doors he comes across.
He also likes to use the impact battery operated drill as this drill type works way better than the standard type battery operated drill. Video Joe used to use the standard drill but then with the impact drill you can sink the screws just a bit farther & that may be all you need extra in order to fix your sagging door.
One more video to go!
VideoJoe has some parting words for you for a few more things to think about & consider if you when you get ready to start working on your doors getting them ready to be painted.
There's some good things he will say & show you on this last video so make sure to watch it.
Thanks again for watching this video course & now that you have completed it, you can go back & review any of the video segments as needed in order for you to get a clearer picture of what you might be up against when getting ready to paint your doors.
I also wanted to let you know yes VideoJoe has several other video courses he has prepared with you in mind & one course will show you how to paint your doors.
Another course will show you how to install the freshly painted doors & he will go over how to install door hinges & door handles & door stops too so take a look at his video courses to see if you might be interested.
Of course he has other videos for all kinds of other things too so take a peek when you get a chance.
You have now completed this video course!
Now it's time to put your new found knowledge to the test. Are you ready?
In this course you will develop the skills necessary in order to fix & repair doors & door jambs before you ever get a paint brush or roller out. Have you ever heard it's all in the prep? Well for painting doors & frames it IS all about the prep.
The important part of painting doors is hidden from view but once you paint your doors & if you miss this vital step before the painting even begins, your door painting project will not turn out how you were hoping. Yes this step is the very first step VideoJoe ever takes when he knows he's going to be painting doors.
In fact even if someone else has been scheduled to paint all the doors & frames VideoJoe will still take matters in his own hands & check out all kinds of things on existing doors before letting the painters have at it. You however may not know how to paint doors (I have a video course for that too!) so if you don't, then you wouldn't know all the things that should be done to the existing doors before painting them.
If you sign up for this video course (& I hope you do) you will learn how a door should be painted & what types of things should be looked at on each door prior to painting the door. I think you will learn lots of new things & it will be money well spent I can say. If you can go without one large pizza with everything on it just once, then you can watch this video course & review it in the future anytime you wish!
Here's some of the things you will learn in this course:
* How to check a door to make sure it's ready to be painted
* How to check to see if a door is sagging
* How to go about fixing a sagging door
* How to remove door stop & why
* How to go about fixing a warped door & how to know if it's warped in the first place
* What tools will be required to fix a warped &/or sagging door
Yes I am sure you might just learn a few other things along the way too as whenever VideoJoe has something to say he will include it in with this video course. This course will be packed full of information you didn't even think you were suppose to know in the first place but I tell you whenever you get ready to paint doors & frames from now on, you will refer back to this video or already have it etched in your mind!
You what this video course is really about? How you can start investing in yourself so you can learn more & apply it throughout the rest of your life. Information is powerful & the sooner you know this the better. With all this new knowledge you will be gaining of course this will mean you will now be able to save lots more of your money since you will be doing all the labor prepping your doors & frames & I hope you decide to prep & paint all of your doors too.
I could assist you with that too as I earlier had said I have a video course for that too so you might want to check it out because painting your doors will save you more money & it's really not that difficult if you ever decided to sign up for that course.
Even if you are a DIY (do it yourself) beginner, no sweat, because that is the exact person meant for this video course!
