Description

This course will cover the drawing and painting of boats, from sketching on location, preparing thumbnail sketches, through to the final painting. I will show a range of types of boat both in ink drawing and watercolour. The boats will be shown in differing locations on land and sea. The course will begin with warm up exercises, how to use pencils correctly, how to show shapes and shadows, how to express yourself more freely without constricting your drawing techniques. These lessons will enable you to draw the shapes of boats more easily.

This three stage process will be the basis upon which all the lectures are set out. At the end of which you will be able to express yourself in your own style!

I have provided, in the downloads, a number of drawings, which you will be able to utilise to start your own layouts/paintings. you will be able to follow what is happening in the course lectures and complete all the work shown at your own pace.

I have also provided a download of watercolour techniques, technical information on equipment, suggested watercolours and an example of a drawing guide to help you to layout the drawings more accurately.

I hope this will inspire you to collect drawings of your own of boats and surrounding structures and things that interest you. A good idea is to take photographs to draw from later.
