Hello and welcome to WATERCOLOR POPPIES!
I had so much fun creating this course for you and I love poppies! Realistic paintings can be intimidating for many new watercolorists so in this course we will bring the whole process together with a few different projects and layers. The course starts off with some basic shapes and the final project will take your skills to the next level with a more realistic look.
Create a simple Color chart with red and orange and test out amounts of water and blending needed.
Let's take a look at some poppy shapes. It will help you gain some perspective on how to paint poppies at different stages of opening.
Paint a simple quick poppy shape for practice.
Let's look at the differences between tube paints and half pans. We'll explore how to lighten and deepen your glazes.
Let's practice some more poppy bud shapes. We'll practice how to create closed buds to more open stages of the flowers.
Practice with poppy pen and ink for quick results, perfect for cards or adding some little touches to your paintings.
In this lecture, we will use some masking fluid to create a poppy shape.
Let's look at creating a light background for your flowers. We will experiment with using alcohol to create some texture in your watercolor painting.
In part one we will sketch out the flower and use masking fluid to section off the hightlights.
Part two we will begin adding some darker values to create more layers in your watercolor painting.
Part 3 of the large poppy we will finish off the painting with some fine details to really make the painting pop off the page. We will also add some darker colors and background.
Part 1 of the realistic poppy bud. This painting project will be more detailed. We'll begin with a light wash.
Students will dive deeper into the layers of color. You will learn to use these layers to make a more realistic painting.
Thank you for joining me!
Thanks so much for joining me in this course, I hope you enjoyed the extra lectures and projects in this one.
So...speaking of projects are you ready to start?
Project #1 - Create a color chart using the practice sessions we discussed. Watch and test your papers, colors and water ratios.
Project #2 - Practice your poppy shapes using just little shapes of color. Test out your different shapes to see how you can turn them into a flower using those 3 color shades.
Project #3 - Work on creating those little poppy buds, open, partially open, and then fully closed.
Project #4 - Background practice - try a few different colors to see what combo interests you and don't forget to try them with and without alcohol.
Project #5 - Ready to paint your Large poppy project. You can print out the image to trace or draw freehand.
Project #6 - Your final project is to complete the realistic poppy bud.
I can't wait to see each one of them.
