Just a few words about this course.
I hope you don't mind, but one of my kittens may make an appearance from time to time.
As all of my painting is filmed as it happens, sometimes they appear from nowhere and are on my desk before I know it.
I hope they amuse you and do not detract from your viewing.
Let's look at the general shapes.
Here we look at some photos and just do a few simple sketches to get the feel of the shape.

Two of the simple shape sketches.

RESOURCES
The photos and the sketches
The colour palette.
I have kept it simple, so that hopefully you have these is your box.
As always if you don't have exactly these colours get as near as you can. And remember it's always more effective to use a limited palette, then you will have a nice cohesive look to your painting.

Golden chicken 1
First layer for this chicken.
remember to mix up your colour, and make plenty and make it wet. It's about layers.
RESOURCES
A photo of this first stage.
Golden chicken - second layer.
The first layer is dry, so here I add more colours and shadow to create the shape.
RESOURCES
The photo of the finished painting.
White chicken with speckles.
This is almost the same pose as the other one, but the point is to keep having a go at layering these washes and feeling the shape. You don't always need to sketch. It's a confidence thins. And the only way to raise that is to keep doing something.

Black chicken with highlights
Quite tricky as the overall image is so 'black.'
So I will be working with the highlights and creating more to get the shape.
Of course painting something in isolation is always different to painting it in a scene. But this is to help you learn techniques.

Black chicken - part two.

Look at feathers in detail.
I have a painting tutorial on YouTube which shows you a relaxed way of creating individual feathers. Iin two parts.

Enjoy your painting, thanks Nicola
NEW BONUS LECTURE added August 2023
What fun this popular course is. Chickens seem to be a popular painting subject.
Along with such things as greeting cards and mugs etc with them on, I thought I would do a course.
So I have got a selection of photos together and I will show you how to start off by making simple shapes to create the chicken, then to make it look more believable, step by step.
I'll show you the colours to use, keeping it simple and then we'll go onto painting individuals and groups, finishing off with a portrait in a more defined style.
BUT MOST IMPORTANT.
This course will really build your confidence. Why? Because you will be using a lot of water and you will not sketch prior to painting.
So what are you waiting for?
Every lecture is supported by resources where indicated and if you have any questions, just get in touch.
Why choose one of my courses?
Because, as a self taught artist I understand how a lot of people feel about their creative work, sometimes anxious, sometimes overwhelmed and often that it's not 'good enough'. I will hold your hand as you overcome these fears as I offer a friendly, relaxed and sensitive teaching style.
I also have years of experience of teaching people of all levels both in person and via the internet.
Do one of my courses and you will feel as if I am in the room with you every step of the way.
Enjoy your painting, love Nicola
PS thanks to Cindy Cates for suggesting this subject and providing some photos
