Learn to paint a watercolor landscape using masking fluid to preserve whites, with five basic colors and a guided step-by-step approach from a reference image.

Let's paint the sky3:03
Paint a light sky with ultramarine blue and water, avoiding the house, then apply dark and light patches for depth. Let the wash dry before continuing.
Painting the fields13:11
Paint the field with layered wet-on-wet greens and purples to add depth, blending ultramarine blue, cadmium red, and a touch of black. Build the background hill and bushes for variation.
Painting the House8:37
Mix red tones for the house and soften with yellow. Create gradients with water for the roof and shadows, then paint grass and edges.
Painting the house Continues7:45
Continue painting the house, adding defined, straight lines and dark tones by mixing red with black; use masking fluid or white pen to edit, and emphasize flowers with ultramarine blue.
Final touches4:56
Apply final touches by refining edges, add white highlights, ensure the painting is fully dry, then remove masking fluid, peel the tape slowly at an angle, and sign your name.

Requirements

Great for beginners. No prerequisites are required.
You don't need to know how to draw for this course, we do minimum sketching. Downloadable sketch is provided in the resources section. Feel free to use it for tracing.

Description

If you have watched my previous classes, you know that I love working with watercolor. In this class, you get to unleash your creativity by exploring a much sought after medium - masking fluids! In this class, we will take a reference image (by Luke Stackpoole on Unsplash), simplify it, and use masking fluid to retain the whites. We will then paint the artwork with watercolor, while learning techniques like wet on wet etc.

Since I wanted everyone to paint, I have used ONLY 5 colors in this class - the colors that come with every basic watercolor set.

What you will need:

Any Watercolor paper (I have used Hahnemuehle Mould made watercolor paper)
Brushes in sizes 6 round and 2 or thinner with a pointed end (I have used Winsor & Newton and Escoda)
Masking fluid (I have used Schmincke)
Watercolor - Cadmium Red (any red will do), Cadmium yellow (any orangish yellow), Sap green, Ultramarine blue and Black
Jar of water and paper towel
Washi tape or masking tape to secure and get crisp edges
White gel pen and Black brush pen (optional)
Pencil and eraser for sketching
