Which Is More Important – Talent Or Practice?
Are you one of those who think they need innate talent to become a good artist?
I'm Eliza, the Watercolor Witch and I make practical art tutorial videos for art enthusiasts like you designed to make learning super easy so you can begin to reap the amazing benefits of an artful practice sooner.
I was born into an artist family as the ”black sheep” of the family.
I was the only member who couldn't even draw a stick figure properly.
My gradmother was an art teacher and watercolorist, my little sister, my cousins, they all were creative, so called "natural talents,” while on the contrary I struggled like hell when it came to drawing and painting.
I was unconfident with my art skills,
I always compared myself to other artists,
But most of all I shied away from trying out new techniques because I was scared of artistic failure.
After a decade filled with never-ending hours of drawing practice and self-judgement I realized one thing:
“Talent is a nice thing to have at start, but what is way more important is: PRACTICE and confidence in yourself.”
Painting should be relaxing and joyful, not a constant self-doubting activity.
Trust me, if I could learn to paint, you can too.
Can I shock you guys a little?
There is no such thing as natural born talent.
There might be people who artistic things come to naturally when they start painting, but that doesn’t really matter much. If they don’t practice diligently they’d find it difficult to improve their skills.
Imagine you’re at a running competition - you start running from the startline and those ”natural talents” have their startline 3 meters ahead of yours.
Yeah, it feels a bit unfair that they have an easier start, but guess what? Watercolor painting isn’t a 100 meters sprint where 3 meters matters. Learning watercolor painting is a long-run practice, it’s a marathon.
So you can easily gain on and possibly get ahead of them if you are really dedicated to practicing.
Because only with regular practice can develop your muscle memory.
So here is one key thing I want you to take away:
Talent is a nice thing to have, but PRACTICE IS WHAT REALLY MATTERS. So practice at least 15 minutes a day, every day, without making any excuses.
Within weeks, months you will be amazed by the results you’ll see.
So come and practice with me. In my courses you will not only learn the technical aspect of painting, but also how to stay relaxed during the painting process.
You can kiss anxiety goodbye to say hello to creating enjoyable artworks with me ;)
See you in the course!
