Watercolor Fast and Loose! Express yourself in your painting
What you'll learn
- paint in a loose and expressive style
- You will need some watercolor paper (15" x 22" is a good size), a large and a small round brush, a flat brush and a rigger. You will also need a small selection of paints: ultramarine blue, cerulean blue, yellow ochre, burnt sienna, alizarin crimson, cadmium red and cadmium yellow.
Are your paintings tight and lifeless? Do they take forever to finish? Do you want to loosen up and become much freer in your style? Do you want to grow in confidence as a painter? Then this course is for you!
In this unique 7 part course I'll teach you how to paint in a fast, loose and free style. Each part of the course is based on the style and methods of a particular master of watercolor impressionism. From these great artists you will learn how to paint in a way that is free, fast and full of expression and passion. The course will be most suitable for those who already paint in watercolors but is really for anyone who just wants to loosen up. The lessons are not difficult, so even beginners will be able to follow along.
- The 7 parts of the course look at the work of
- Frank Webb,
- Edward Seago,
- John Yardley,
- Claude Croney,
- Jack Merriott,
- Tony Couch, and
- Edward Wesson.
I suggest you take the course one step at a time, and so build up your skills. With each lecture there is an audio introduction which will help you to get started. Then download the pdf pages that show you step by step what to do, and also give you more ideas and information. Finally watch the video of me painting the project, and then have a go yourself.
I suggest you take a project a week, so that once you have painted the set piece you can spend some time practicing the techniques before moving on to the next project.
Who this course is for:
- The course works best for people who already paint in watercolor but want to loosen up their style and paint with more freedom. If you are a complete beginner, then this course may help you to get started in watercolors.
I have taught painting for many years, both in adult education classes and also over the internet. Through my online courses I have taught thousands of people to paint since 2005. I have lead a number of painting holidays in the UK and overseas, write regularly for Leisure Painter magazine in the UK, and for a short time I was an instructor with Derwent Pencils. For five years I worked in ceramics, painting large tiled wall murals to commission.
I am originally from England, but now live in southern Spain with my lovely wife and two dogs.
My interest in painting goes back to my childhood, and I have learned throughout my life the skills and ideas that have kept me in employment and which I now hope to pass on to you. I love working in watercolors and gouache, and also in oils and acrylics. Each of these requires a different way of working, but I always aim to keep my paintings lively and fresh. I always want to convey something of the heart to anyone looking at my paintings.
The exercises and painting projects in my courses have all been thoroughly tested over time and proved to work well, and I am constantly amazed at the speed at which students improve. I hope you enjoy learning with me!
