An introduction to the course, and preview of the things we'll cover.
Skill development is important, but it's also important to know what actually doing the work is like. In this lecture, I talk about it, and also actually fill an order in real time so you can see the process.
Thanks to a lot of confusing information out on the Internet, there's one particular trap that nearly aspiring voiceover person falls into, early on, and it can be a tragic one. I explain in this lecture, and tell you the simple way to avoid it.
One of the things I most want to accomplish with this course is to help you to set priorities, and to set aside the things that aren't necessary to burden yourself with initially. To "cut through the clutter" you've probably been a victim of if you've been researching voiceovers online. This lesson talks about putting getting the horse back out in front of the cart!
Voiceover practice is so important, and it can be SO FUN! This ain't piano lessons. Let me show you what you can do to make you look forward to each practice session.
Put a tiny bit aside to get at least a preliminary coaching "assessment" session with a voiceover coach. In this lesson, I actually demonstrate, with a live "victim," (just kidding, Melissa!) what that session can contain.
So you've been developing your talents for awhile...now what? How do you know when you're ready to dive into the demo?
This is just a quick survey of some information about the dem. This is something for later in your pursuit, when the time is right.
There's also the matter of marketing. This is another future area you can concern yourself with more later, so this lesson introduces the subject.
Here's a little bonus section where I talk about room acoustics, and give you a tour of my studio. I also show some pictures of my acoustic panels being put together.
What Makes THIS Course Different
If you are like most people investigating voiceover work these days, you've probably already become oversaturated by YouTube and Tiktok videos, and your head is spinning. This course will settle you down, cut away a lot of the unnecessary data and complications, and reduce the information down to something that's easy to digest and understand. The course does a quick survey of the the road ahead for voiceover people, but then brings you back to JUST what's important right now, so you can stop worrying about a lot of other things that don't matter yet.
By the time you're done with this course, you'll not only feel calmer and more assured, but you'll know how to determine with confidence whether voiceovers is something you're suited to. There's no techno-jargon, but no talking down to you. Expect cordial, straight-from-the-hip, clear information from by someone who has over 40 years of voiceover experience.
