Explore how virtual reality supports stroke rehabilitation within occupational therapy, covering VR basics, the three types (non immersive, semi immersive, fully immersive), accessibility strategies, and insights from a needs assessment.
VR integrated with standard occupational therapy improves motor function, neuroplasticity, and quality of life for stroke recovery in inpatient and outpatient settings. Tailor-made VR games boost active training and repetitions.
Develops a VR-based capstone to educate stroke rehabilitation with an educational video and handouts. Applies biomechanical frame of reference to restore range of motion and improve occupational performance within Popi.
Collaborate with Iowa State University's Digital Accessibility Lab to document a doctoral capstone exploring virtual reality tools for stroke rehabilitation, selecting accessible games and evaluating patient outcomes.
Analyze evidence for occupation-based practice in occupational therapy to foster lifelong learning with VR. Demonstrate professionalism and advocacy with a consented VR therapy video and affordable systems handout.
Explore immersive virtual reality therapies that enhance stroke-related occupational performance, demonstrating practical gains in upper-extremity function, coordination, and daily living activities through virtual reality games and standardized assessments.
Explore accessibility concerns in virtual reality and identify ways to increase VR accessibility for individuals with disabilities, reflecting an individualized third learning objective.
Explore how fully immersive virtual reality supports stroke rehabilitation by improving motion, cognition, and balance, while outlining precautions and accessibility strategies.

Hello!
Welcome to my Udemy course, Virtual Reality for Stroke Rehabilitation.
This course outlines my doctoral capstone experience that focused on the use of immersive virtual reality to enhance occupational performance after a stroke. In this course, viewers will learn about the types of virtual reality, and will gain an understanding of different virtual reality systems. Participants will learn how virtual reality may be used to bridge the gap between therapeutic goals and occupational outcomes. The course will highlight how commercially available virtual reality could potentially enhance occupational performance for individuals with functional deficits. Participants will also learn about accessibility concerns of virtual reality and ways to increase access for individuals with disabilities. This Udemy course features lecture material, educational handouts, and an educational video about my capstone experience. There is a short quiz at the end of my course to assess knowledge gained from my capstone project. I encourage viewers to visit my attached resources and references to learn more about the contents from my video.
If you have any questions about my capstone experience, feel free to send me an email. Contact information will be provided at the end of the course. Thank you for taking the time to learn about my capstone experience.
