  • Welcome2:15

Welcome to the Virtual Engagement Toolbox. You know your content. You've never had to teach it in front of a webcam before. This program is designed to give educators confidence and competence to step into virtual instruction with confidence. The goal is to provide actionable tactics and practical tips to educators.

  • Stepping Into Virtual Instruction3:01

Virtual is going to be different. New technology, loss of connection, boredom and distraction all around. Here are some pointers on what to expect and how you can launch in by pivoting around purpose, striving for clarity and simplicity, and embracing what is uniquely virtual.

  • Avoiding Boredom and Distraction2:45

Boredom and distraction have always been a challenge - they are even more so in a virtual setting where we have less control of the environment. Have your learner do something other than watch or listen often - and pull from the toolbox for varied forms of engagement.

  • Leveling the Playing Field1:35

Embracing what is uniquely virtual is important - leveling the playing field is possible in a virtual environment because many tools in the toolbox give broader voice. How many people can ask questions at the same time if we are in the same room and being polite? Usually the loudest ;)  Some virtual tools can be used to level the playing field in a great way.

  • Managing Energy2:00

Energy will ebb and flow during a virtual session - actively plan and manage it with purpose and intent (like how an amazing live band like The Avett Brothers build a set list).

Requirements

  • Interest in how to move from in person to online instruction
  • Passion for creating captivating virtual experiences for learners
