Journey on a magical and virtual trip to the towns of Tumaco, Guapi, Barbacoas, and Timbiquí on the Colombian Pacific Coast. Immerse yourself in this Afro-Colombian culture and learn about each of its traditional practices. Every lesson is guided by local cultural leaders who are delighted to share their unique way of life with the world. This course has a large economic and social benefit to this community, and places the members’ interests at the core of its mission; all income coming from this course goes directly to them. In this virtual journey, guided by traditional knowledgeable locals who will share their stories and knowledge, we will learn to play four different rhythms in all the traditional instruments: Bombos, Cununos, Gauss, Marimba de Chonta and voices:
1. Learn the “Bambuco” rhythm with a teacher from Guapi
2. Learn the “Quiquimbamba” rhythm with a teacher from Barbacoas
3. Learn the “Bunde” rhythm with a teacher from Tumaco
4. Learn the “Juga” rhythm with teachers from Timbiquí
The Pacific coast of Colombia is a region that has been affected by the Colombian armed conflict, but its cultural richness is unmeasurable. This course was created by Marimbea and co-financed by the program “Territorios de Oportunidad” to share in this abundance.
