The messege i received from Jeff:
"I have a neighbor who is not happy that my family and I just adopted a dog. The neighbor has complained to my neighborhood homeowners association that the dog barks all day and all night long and is a nuisance which wakes his sleeping infant up and that we leave the dog out all the time which is all day long on the patio when we are not there. None of this is true. My wife keeps the dog inside when we are home (she is a stay at home mom) and the dog sleeps in our bed every night. The dog is quiet, but will bark if she sees an animal in our yard or another person she doesn't know. (we live on an acre of land – so we are not as close together as one would think). Other than that, she doesn’t make a peep.
Anyway – this neighbor approached my wife recently, after first (he makes a formal complaint and then wants to discuss it with us after making the complaint) complaining several times to the homeowners association and we had to respond formally to the association based on the neighbor's allegation.that the dog was a nuisance. The neighbor accosted my wife and he was pretty nasty and said that our dog was a nuisance. My wife denied his allegations and he became confrontational and asked “what are you calling me a liar?” (yes – he is lying or making extreme exaggerations because he doesn’t want us to have a dog or one off bark here or there is too much for him - of course, he has to exaggerate to make his case actionable)
My question is – when someone is lying to others about you and making false or frivolous claims in bad faith, how would you handle that? How also do you handle if someone confronts with “are you calling me a liar – when you believe, yeah - that person who is asking is lying? It’s a shame really. He sent a video to my homeowners association as ‘proof’ – it is pitch black at night – the video has no time or date stamp – I’m not even sure its my house. But in the video he’s outside moving around – there is a dog barking in the distance – he is heard saying
“keep barking – barking – c’mon”, and the minute and 4 second video ends with “this is what I hear all day and night” - it is so false and this makes my blood boil. Immediately I have to defend myself for the audacity of having a dog - and a dog that does not bark as he claims she does. So pray tell - How do you handle that ?"
