About this course.
180g, the developers of Vellum, have announced on their blog that, as of May 2016, Vellum is no longer sold through the Mac App Store (see their blog for details). To receive future updates to Vellum, you will need to migrate to the Direct version. This simply means you will only be able to download the application from their website. You will not lose any purchases or books you have been working on.
We'll download the Vellum app and the sample material to use during the tutorial in Section 2. You can download the app from the Vellum website or in the Mac App Store. The sample content is available from the Vellum Tutorial page. Links are in the Resources tab.
Let's open the sample material to begin editing our manuscript.
Let's get editing. We'll dive into Vellum's sample content and begin looking at how to edit chapters, text, add ornamental breaks, and more.
Let's see how we can change the look of your eBook using Vellum's beautifully designed styles. There are plenty of styles to choose from, and you have options to customize each one to fit your content.
Let's take a look at how you can get a preview of what your final eBook will look like on each different device.
In this final video of the sample material tutorial in Section 1, we'll add a cover image to our ebook to get it ready for publishing.
With the recent announcement that Vellum is no longer available in the Mac App Store, here's a tutorial on switching over to the direct download version of the app.
Since you're on a Mac, you may be more familiar with Apple Pages than Microsoft Word. Or you may have created a separate file for each chapter in your book. How can you import into Vellum in these situations? I show you how in this video.
What do you do if Vellum messes up your chapters?
I'll talk about prepping your manuscript with Element Styles to properly produce a Table of Contents. I'll show you how different devices present your Table of Contents and why it is important to include for your readers.
Go from manuscript to published in 1/10th the time!
You've written short stories, your first novel, a technical book, or your autobiography or memoir. But, you have a tight budget or don't want to deal with rejection from big-name publishers.
You can self-publish – and it won't take you hours and hours to figure out complicated desktop publishing applications like Adobe InDesign or Windows Publisher.
You can do it all in a matter of minutes with an app that one author called "the best tool for the ebook formatting job."
This course will help you take your completed manuscript and get it designed and ready to publish on Amazon Kindle (KDP), Apple Books, Barnes & Noble Nook, Kobo, Google Play store, or your website, all with one easy-to-use application that is free to download on your Mac.
Vellum is a publishing application for macOS that makes it easy to design a beautiful ebook for multiple digital stores in one simple process. It will also allow you to prepare a version for printing with just a few extra clicks.
In this course, I'll help you download and install the software, practice with sample material, and then import your prepared manuscript and get it ready to upload to various marketplaces. You'll be one step closer to earning a passive income with your writing! We'll cover how to ensure your book looks great in print, whether working with a local printing house or publishing through online services like Amazon KDP or IngramSpark.
