VAT Basics
Requirements
- No VAT experience needed
Description
Welcome to the “VAT Basics” course. The course was born out of my experience in using value-added tax (VAT) data in macroeconomic analysis. Using VAT data in this context provides some interesting opportunities. Conversely, using the data for this purpose may lead to some challenges.
The first step in using VAT data in macroeconomics is understanding the context in which the data was generated. It is not necessary to get into the “nitty gritty” of the underlying law. This is especially true when dealing with VAT data from foreign jurisdictions. In fact, delving into a particular law at the microscopic level may be more of a distraction than a help. I came to this conclusion after participating in projects that involved information generated by laws outside my home jurisdiction. I found the best approach for dealing with this scenario was to analyze the subject from a generic perspective. Once I learned the underlying generic concepts of the particular subject matter, I could navigate the details of a specific jurisdiction with relative ease. This led me to create a VAT course based on a generic approach.
I hope you enjoy learning using this method. Thank you for joining me on Udemy.
