What is Usability Testing and why is it a crucial element of design process?
Features and functions is one thing, and making them usable is another. Even after a product has all the required features, if the usability is poor, your users will leave to find better solutions.
Although the phenomena of usability has been known for many decades, but still the products lack usability. Now that more and more businesses are becoming digital, the focus on design & usability has become a key differentiator and unique selling point.
Usability testing is to evaluate the product to understand how easy & pleasant it is for your user to complete their task(s).
Watch the video to know how is it done, who all are involved like the facilitator and participant.
Remote testing method is useful when it is not possible to meet your representative users as participant of test. This is also the most preferred method now a days, when everyone prefers doing everything from the comfort of their homes.
Depending on the goal of the test, not always a facilitator is needed. Many a times, giving the test to the users for testing the product in their own time is just enough.
When it is possible and beneficial to meet to look through the shoulder of your participant while they're able to perform the test.
The traditional way of testing usability of products is testing in a usability lab with dedication equipments and infrastructure.
Performing the test is important. Even more important is to collect the test data in a structured manner, analyze the data and present the insights to the stakeholders in a way which can be consumed.
