Description

Urdu is an Indo-Aryan language spoken by millions of people around the world. It has a long and rich history dating back to the early medieval period in the Indian subcontinent.

The origins of Urdu can be traced back to the 8th century when the Arab conquerors brought the Arabic language and script to the region. The language that evolved as a result of the interaction between the local languages and Arabic is known as Hindustani.

Over time, Hindustani split into two distinct languages: Hindi and Urdu. While Hindi is written in the Devanagari script and is mainly spoken in the northern regions of India, Urdu is written in the Arabic script and is mainly spoken in the northern regions of India and Pakistan.

In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, Urdu became the official language of the British Indian Empire and was widely used in literature, poetry, and journalism. It was also used in the Indian independence movement and became one of the two official languages of the newly independent state of Pakistan in 1947.

Today, Urdu is spoken by millions of people around the world and is known for its rich literary tradition and beautiful poetry. It is an important language for those interested in South Asian culture and history.
