Here I tell you a bit more about what you will be doing.
Blank Cards.
You don't have to, but you can buy cards with matching envelopes from many on line suppliers such as 'craft creations,' 'Hobbycraft' and ebay and amazon. You may also have a good discount/craft supplier you can visit.
Alternatively, you can make your own with card and even discarded boxes, if you are resourceful you will find plenty of ways. It doesn't even have to be a folding card, make it in a postcard style, though an envelope would be helpful to protect your work.
If you are planning to sell them on, the cellophane packets will keep them clean and make them look very presentable. And don't forget a label so that people know how to get in touch with you.
Putting it all together.
A short video to show you some fixings.
Cut and tear
Apart from scissors and knifes can buy scissors which will give you a decorative edge, these can be fun for deckle or zigzag. Also tearing paper can give you an interesting edge.
NB Never use fabric shears
Let's look at a few examples.
In this video I show you a few examples of the cards I have made before we go and look at some particular themes.
The themes which follow are subjects which I and the people I send cards to are interested in. I have not included sport ( which is a good subject as a card for a man) but one you have done the lectures you will have plenty of ideas to create your own themes.
RESOURCE

Gardening.
This is a popular pastime so will please a lot of people. You can also include any nature subjects such as butterflies or even pressed flowers if you wish.
My source materials come from received cards, calendars, wrapping paper, magazine cuttings, and anything else which firs in with the theme.

Food and drink.
A great subject which you can have a bit of fun with.
Be imaginative and personalise it for the person you are giving it to. Maybe they are a wine connoisseur, or are into organic food, a 'chocoholic' or are mad about cheese, you'll be surprised at what you can use. Labels from packages, sweet wrappers and magazine cuttings.

Trains, planes and travel.
Another variable subject and also one which you can fine tune for a man.

Music.
Whether this be listening to it or participating in it, this will please many people and when you have gathered your resources you can create a wide range of cards with different twists.
In this lecture I also suggest how you can add more interest my having an embellishment which hangs from a piece of ribbon.

Sewing and crafting.
Mainly one for the ladies, but you never know. Look at magazines and online for an inspiration, If you are sewer or crafter yourself, you may even have labels or bits of fabric or yarn that you can include.

Cats.
Maybe you prefer dogs, rabbits or horses, it doesn't matter as this lecture will give you a few ideas which you can use for the subject of your choice.

Just an ideas for something a bit glittery. Copy this or use it as inspiration for another design.
Add another dimension to your cards with sealing wax.
The box of assorted waxes and the burner cam from Amazon.
Make a folded pocket by using the torn pages from an old book.
Ink and tool used from Amazon.
Selling you cards.
If you start selling your cards, lining the inside of the envelope can really raise the overall standard and enable you to charge more. It isn't difficult and can use up a variety of scraps and unwanted wrapping paper.
You might be amazed at the things you already have which you can use as inspiration and as a materials source.
Puns - a play on words.
Think about searching out your own jokes of phrases that you can use , especially if it is liked to the pictorial subject.
