When you think about your "superpower", think about your unique strengths and skills. They don't have to be related to your job. Perhaps people have complimented you in the past about something you are really good at, and it's a skill you may or may not currently use in your work. Whatever it is, think outside the box. What are you good at? It can be the smallest thing, this is not the time to overthink it, just start sketching!
In this guided visualization, we will explore three unique scenarios from the past. All you need to do it take a seat, close your eyes, listen, and let the subconscious mind do the work.
Once you complete the mind map for each of the 6 topics, step back and observe your mind map. Then, answer the following questions:
1. What do you know now about the kind of work that engages and satisfies you?
2. Where are there more possibilities in your current work to experience more of what you want?
3. What other possibilities exist for you to move into better work? What else would change in your life if you were doing work you found more meaningful?
4. What values would be easier to live?
5. What difference would it make to other people?
Now it's time to put all of the insights and information you learned into articulating and exploring 3 potential career paths. Even if you only see one or two choices, I would challenge you to think about one more. Don't worry about how scary or realistic it seems. Just write it down and explore it using the questions in the resources section. Evaluate each path and see which one has the highest score, based on the evaluation criteria.
We're going back to sketching now! As you sketch your dream job, go back to the very first sketch of your superpower. How are the two sketches connected? What additional insights have you uncovered by comparing the two sketches? Does your dream career make sense now? How are you using your superpower in your latest sketch?
Now it's time to make a plan, and engage other people. It's important to identify your next steps and what actions you need to take in order to get to your vision. It's important to assess the gap between where you are now and where you want to be, and outline steps that you can take to close that gap. Breaking it down into smaller steps makes it more manageable.
Finally, check out the 'Implement your vision' questionnaire. It's important to fully own, embody and commit to your plan. Sometimes it requires making a series of small or big changes in your life. These questions will help you decide what version of you is required in order to accomplish your goal, and how you can get out of your own way. You can always rewrite your story, and it's easier when you have a clear north star in mind.
Good luck!
Some people just know what their dream job is, while others need a little bit of help to figure it out. Some of us may be good at many different things, so it may be hard to choose one direction. Others have perhaps never experienced that state of ‘flow’. Or maybe other people have discouraged us in the past and told us that what we wanted was unrealistic.
There are ways to find the answers you seek. What we need to do is identify what makes you feel engaged, effective and fulfilled. Your unconscious mind already has all the answers. You just have to bring it to light. And we do that using three different methodologies that are proven to help you step out of your current experience and see new choices and possibilities for yourself.
We will use guided meditation to connect with our unconscious mind and our desires. This is how we identify our interests and passions. We will use principles of Design Thinking to uncover new insights through guided questioning and mind mapping. And we’ll use NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming) practices to identify what is already working well for us, where our strengths lie and where we bring the most value; then we will build on it, develop alternatives and connect the dots you never thought about connecting.
The idea is to find the overlap between what you are good at, what you enjoy doing, and what can pay the bills. It has to feel attainable and realistic in order for it to work.
