Who's Angie?
I was born and raised in northwestern Washington state, in the United States. Over the past half of my life I've lived, studied, and worked in Massachusetts, Mexico, Belgium, China, Luxembourg, and Turkey. I know firsthand how transformative, educational, and enriching it is to live away from your home city and country.
I have over eight years of experience managing and doing on-site logistics for short-term study abroad programs, as well as managing partnerships with a dozen universities in the UK, Ireland, Australia, and France. Thanks to working one-on-one with hundreds of students in the US and abroad, I know that young people who go abroad consistently encounter amazing academic, work, and research opportunities, and develop the intercultural competency and independence that is so vital for success in a diverse and dynamic world. I now work for a private company and do content and document creation, document control, and editing.
Who's Sefa?
I am a lecturer at Yasar University School of Foreign Languages in İzmir since 2014. I have been working as a language instructor since 2010. I started teaching at Dokuz Eylül University School of Foreign Languages, Modern Languages, Conservatory and School of Nursery. In 2012, I moved to Helsinki, Finland as Comenius Language Assistance. In Finland, I taught English to Finnish and Swedish students at Sipoonjoen Koulu, Leppätäen Koulu (Immersion School), Kyrkoby Skola and Kungsvägen Skola. I also did some intercultural projects like Sing in 4 Languages (Turkish, Finnish, Swedish and English), Geometry in Life (E-twinning Project). After my great discovery of Nordic culture, I moved back to Turkey and joined the Turkish Army. In the army, I taught English at Non-Commissioned Officer (NCO) Vocational College. Since the summer of 2014, I have been teaching English at the School of Foreign Language at Yaşar University.

Merhaba, ben Sefa Kırlı! Daha çok küçükken yabancı müzik dinlemekle başladı ilgim, daha sonra da yabancı şarkılar çalmakla devam etti. Simav Anadolu Öğretmen Lisesi Yabancı Dil Bölümü ve ardından Dokuz Eylül Üniversitesi Buca Eğitim Fakültesi İngiliz Dili Eğitimi Bölümünden mezunum. Bu iki okulda da hem dil hem de pedagoji üzerine odaklanmam dil eğitimi hakkındaki fikirlerimin temellerini oluşturdu bende.
2010 yılında Estonya'nın Tartu şehrinde bir çok farklı okulda görev aldım. Stajyer öğretmen olarak katılımcısı olduğum Comenius Projesi İngilizce dinleme becerileri üzerineydi ve Tartu Üniversitesi'nde gerçekleşen bu proje sayesinde ilk defa yurtdışında öğretmenlik yapma fırsatı buldum, bu esnada Dokuz Eylül Üniversitesi'nde son sınıfta olmam ve bir nevi öğretmenliğe bu şekilde başlamamın bende çok büyük etkisi oldu.
Devamında 2011 yılında Dokuz Eylül Üniversitesi Yabancı Diller Yüksekokulu Hazırlık Sınıfı'ndaki görevime başladım. Burada hazırlık sınıfı dışında Hemşirelik Fakültesi ve Devlet Konservatuvar'ında Genel ve Mesleki İngilizce dersleri verdim.
2012 yılında Finlandiya'nın Helsinki şehrine yerleşerek dört farklı okulda İngilizce öğretmeni olarak çalıştım. Comenius Dil Asistanı olarak görev yaptığım bu dört okul başlı başına bir kitap konusudur benim için. Dünyanın en iyi eğitim sistemini "katılarak gözlemleme" diyebileceğimiz bir yöntemle inceleme fırsatım oldu. Hatta bu okullardan bir tanesi Immersion School dediğimiz türden bir okuldu. Buradaki öğrenciler erken yaşta %100 İsveçce eğitim dile ile ilköğretime başlıyorlardı, anadilleri Fince olmasına rağmen.
Helsinki'de geçen 1 senenin ardından ülkeme dönüp vatani görevimi yapmak üzere orduya katıldım. Yedek Subay olarak Kara Kuvvetleri Balıkesir Astsubay Meslek Yüksekokulu'nda askeri öğrencilerin İngilizce derslerine girdim. Buradaki 1 senenin ardından da 2014 yılında Yaşar Üniversitesi Yabancı Diller Yüksekokulu’ndaki görevime başladım.
2017 yılında İsveç'e giderek Linnaeus Üniversitesi'ndeki İngilizce Öğretmenliği Bölümünde "Online Eğitim Verme" ve "İngilizce Ders Planı Oluşturma" üzerine öğretmen adaylarına dersler verdim. Umarım bir gün Norveç ve Danimarka'da da eğitimler vererek kuzeyi tamamen keşfedebilirim.
Yine 2017 yılından bu yana dünyanın en büyük 3 online eğitim platformlarından birisi olan Udemy'de online eğitimlerimi yayınlamaktayım. İngilizcenin dışında benim de yıllar önce müzik öğretmenim olan bağlama eğitmeni Erdoğan Erken ile bağlama çalımı, eski iş arkadaşım Angie Woodmansee ile İngilizce paragraf yazımı ve dünyalar güzeli eşim Berçin Erben ile Interrail rehberi üzerinde eğitimlerim bulunmaktadır. Şu ana kadar 79 farklı ülkeden 22 farklı dili konuşan 24,000'in üzerinde öğrencimiz oldu Udemy'de. Bu bir eğitmen için inanılmaz bir deneyim.
Son zamanlarda da YouTube üzerinden Duolingo, Busuu, Memrise ve Cambly gibi dil eğitimi uygulamalarını test ederek fikirlerimi aktardığım içerikler üretmekteyim.
