An introduction to "Ultimate Career Reboot" - who it's for, what it's going to help you to do, why it's so important - especially in today's new world, and how long it's likely to take you.
We're joining you on your journey, leading you towards your ideal career. So here's a little bit about us and why we're in the position to help you.
Fact: learning can only be done BY you, not TO you! This isn't 'how the course works', but how YOU are going to make the course work for you, in the most efficient and enjoyable way to suit you. So roll your sleeves up..
? Reboot Team Exercise
This exercise will fill your tank with the fuel required to power through this e-course and find your ideal career.
There are some free tools that will help you, and some things you need to put in place before you begin. So let's get that sorted.
We recommend being very thorough as you do this course. Leave no stone unturned! However, we know people arrive at a course like this from different positions of experience. So here, we have an AI 'GPT' to help diagnose you and find you the fastest 'route' through this course. This will save you some time.
What makes an ideal career 'ideal'? It won't be the same for everyone. Which is why you're going to need to define what you're aiming for.
Most people aren't in their 'ideal' career. Because they never knew how to find it. We'll look at what defines an 'unideal' (it's not really a word, but for us, it is now!) career
This Reboot Team exercise gets you clear on your own and each others criteria that define what an ideal career looks like. This increases everyone's focus and chances of finding something that works.
A quick recap on what's about to happen, how to manage yourself, and how to start strong!
What we're about to do and why. And why defining the criteria we are aiming for is so important to focus our efforts.
A statement that we'll work together on completing. Once it's complete, you'll know your ideal career.
Let's take a look at some of the things you'd love to have in your life, whether they're within your reach or not. And let's remind ourselves why this is an important starting point.
Your ideal lifestyle can only be 'realistic'. However, what you believe is attainable is only a function of what you know at the moment! As the mist clears you might just realise you can go down other paths. In this module, we'll start weaving an ideal lifestyle around some of your goal and dreams.
This isn't about your city, town or village. It's about the 'pond' you'll spend most of your working time swimming in. It's worth defining what localised work environment brings you alive and puts you at your best.
What level of responsibility would be ideal for you? Let's give this a quick pass over, as it might just inform your ideas later. Do you want to be a leader? A manager? Do you want to be a specialist? Or someone who works 'in the weeds' or detail of your chosen field?
Do you want to run a business, freelance, or be employed? Or have a mix of jobs or careers? What would put you at your strongest? What's ideal for you?
What financial goals and salary are important to you to create your ideal lifestyle and deliver on your goals? What's acceptable? What's unacceptable? And what figures would actually DRIVE you to fight your way through your new challenge and succeed? The numbers you choose will influence everything...
Start building the picture where you can. Like a jigsaw where you find common patterned pieces together, what can you add to your Ultimate Career Reboot Statement? Can you add any info on the salary you might need? Or anything about where you want to live and work? Start building the habit of adding to the picture and refining things. You can always change it later, but it helps to start focusing. How to go through, edit and refine all you've done so far, so that you've hit the 'Criteria Reboot' button, and your new criteria is clear. Your compass is set. The self reboot is about to follow, however…we’ve added an additional section as an interlude which will help you take advantage of Ai effortlessly .... should you wish!
Why it's important to audit yourself as you currently are. There's a new world ahead with new challenges and opportunities. And there are many unique strengths and areas of expertise that you can bring the worlds new challenges. Let's take a good look at what you've got, your special skills, and your value.
Many people haven't really worked out who they are themselves. The one person you hang around with the most, and you don't even know them! Many people haven't really worked out who they like to hang around with the most. The people who energise them and make them better off. And many people haven't worked out how others see them on the whole. Because they tend to think that others see them in the same way as they see themselves. But they don't. So in this module we'll take care of all of these unknowns, and make them all 'knowns'.
Fish don't know they're in water. But they are. Similarly, people can't often see their own strengths. Because they perhaps come more easily or naturally, or because they were acquired over time unintentionally, we often totally overlook them! Yes the key to making most impact in our careers is of course to build a career around our strengths. So let's put the scanner on, and pull out those top strengths.
Sometimes, identifying your own strengths can prove to be challenging- certainly without the right strategies. While some of you may already know what you’re good at, many people overlook their natural talents because they come so easily or have been developed over time. In this session, we’ll dive into a set of quick, stealthy questions designed to bypass overthinking and help you uncover your true strengths.
Through questions that guide you to reflect on your school years, recent accomplishments, feedback from others, and your own experience in life or career paths, we’ll dig deep to identify patterns in your strengths. The aim is to write fast and avoid filtering—don't worry about perfect answers! Repetition is encouraged here, as it helps reveal consistent strengths.
In this next part of our journey, we’ll continue exploring your strengths through a series of thoughtful questions designed to bring out what you might not immediately recognise about yourself. These questions will guide you to reflect on areas where you naturally excel, tasks that others may find challenging but you find effortless, and situations where your unique skills shine the most.
We’ll also help you consider how you prefer to apply your strengths in different scenarios and even uncover any hidden areas of expertise you may not have realised contribute to your strengths. The goal is to respond instinctively, letting your answers flow so patterns can emerge.
Grab your pen and let’s continue this process of self-discovery. You’re on the path to uncovering the strengths which could ultimately help shape your future.
In this third video, we’ll dive deeper with four key questions to help you further clarify your strengths. These questions are designed to put you in scenarios where your strengths naturally emerge—whether it's imagining yourself giving a talk on a subject you feel confident in, reflecting on the consistent feedback you receive at work, or identifying the tasks that energise you rather than drain you.
As we progress, you’ll also review the patterns from your earlier answers to identify your top three strengths, as well as a broader list of five to seven strengths that will be key to moving forward in this course.
In this final set of questions, we’re adding seven additional prompts to help you uncover any remaining strengths that might still be under the surface. These questions are designed to loosen the lid a little further, focusing on what you love to create, where you excel naturally, and the areas where you feel fully immersed.
You’ll be encouraged to think about the tasks where you lose track of time, any professional recognition you’ve received, and the products or experiences that you’re most familiar with in your life. By the end of this video, you should have a comprehensive view of your strengths, along with a clear list of your top three to five.
These final insights will round out your strengths inventory and prepare you for the next steps in the course.
Half the time we don't even know ourselves as well as we should! Let alone know how others really see us. And where they see our value. Let's fix that.
Strenghts and interests don't always align. Sometimes we're interested in things but not great at them. Sometimes we're great at things, but don't find them all that interesting. But your ideal career would sit around your interests. And your interests constantly tug on you, trying to pull you their way. So let's put the scanner on those..
In this video, we’ll explore prompts to help you uncover your genuine interests—those that might not always be immediately obvious. While you may already have a few clear interests, sometimes the real passions lie just beneath the surface, waiting to be discovered. By reflecting on activities you enjoyed outside of school, subjects you found intriguing, and topics you frequently read or watch content about, you’ll gain a deeper insight into what truly captures your curiosity.
The questions also guide you to consider groups or clubs you've joined that held your interest, offering additional clues about the types of pursuits that energise you. By taking a few moments to explore each question, you’ll start to see patterns that reveal your authentic interests, setting the stage for identifying new opportunities that align with your strengths.
In this video, we’ll go deeper into discovering your interests with a fresh set of reflective prompts. These questions aim to reveal areas you might be curious about but haven’t yet explored fully—potentially uncovering new fields, ideas, or passions that could shape your future goals. You’ll consider what truly captivates you in your current role, topics you love discussing, and areas you’d study in depth if given the chance.
One key exercise in this video is to push your thinking beyond the obvious, expanding on what you enjoy by completing the prompt “I am someone who enjoys…” with 20 unique answers. This process encourages you to dive past surface-level interests, creating a comprehensive list to help identify patterns and bring your top three interests into focus. These insights will set the foundation for combining your interests with strengths in future exercises to explore potential career pathways.
In this final video on interests, we dive into a series of additional questions designed to help anyone who might be struggling to finalise their list of interests. These prompts encourage you to reflect on areas of curiosity that energise you, and how you’d choose to spend uninterrupted time if given the chance.
This set of questions also explores subjects you’d love to learn about quickly if given a "magic wand" to accelerate your learning—revealing areas that could align with future goals. By the end of this video, you should have a well-rounded list of your top five to seven interests, preparing you for the next steps of your career discovery journey.
Pride is important. Your ideal career will enable you to earn pride. If you're not proud of what you do, you won't fly as high as you could. Let's scan you and your past for moments of pride so that we can work out how to put our best foot forwards.
In this video, we focus on uncovering the moments in life that fill you with genuine pride. These questions are designed to help you recognise your personal achievements—things you've actively worked toward and overcome, rather than instances of luck. Through prompts that take you back to various life stages, you'll identify accomplishments, milestones, and fulfilling moments that evoke a sense of pride, whether in childhood, teenage years, or recent times.
You'll also reflect on the people you most admire, which often highlights values that resonate deeply with you and can shed light on what you’re proud of in yourself. These reflections serve as a foundation for understanding your values and celebrating the things that make you proud, providing a strong basis for the next stages in the course.
In this video, we continue exploring moments in your life that have filled you with pride. The questions encourage you to reflect on achievements that mattered both to you and to others, helping to reveal the impact you've had in different areas of life. You’ll also focus on what you’ve deliberately learned and mastered, and the sense of pride that comes with overcoming significant setbacks or challenges.
The final question prompts you to think ahead about what you’d like to accomplish in the future that would make you proud. By the end of this session, you'll have a clearer picture of your proudest moments, both past and future, which will guide you as you move forward in the course.
In this final video on uncovering your moments of pride, we explore four additional questions to help you reflect more deeply. You'll be prompted to think about meaningful experiences outside of work, moments when you’ve felt most alive and connected to others, and situations where your efforts left you glowing with pride or satisfaction.
The final question centres on leadership—both formal and informal—encouraging you to consider the projects or initiatives you’ve led and the pride you’ve taken in those moments. By reflecting on these prompts, you'll gain further clarity on the experiences and actions that fill you with pride, rounding out your understanding of what truly makes you feel accomplished and fulfilled.
Not everyone has to do 'meaningful' work to be happy and energised. It depends what criteria you identified for your ideal career. But, it's safe to say, those with a degree of meaning in their work (whatever that means to them..) have an energy and drive about what they do that keeps them strong and fulfilled. It's worth exploring.
Life is about solving a series of problems. Some are of interest to us, they're worthwhile, solving them energises us, and frustrates others (who would rather pay us to solve them). Let's find out what sorts of problems are worthwhile, interesting to solve, and that others might pay us for.
Would your ideal career be ideal because you can hit the ground running as you are, ready to maximise value to a paying market? Or would you need to relearn, retrain, and study some more to gain qualifications or certifications to step into your ideal career? If so, how willing are you to do that?
Your values drive you. You like it when you live in sync with them. You don't like it when you don't. But you can't work in your ideal career until you know what your top values are. This is an important exercise about finding what's most important to you.
We all earn a living by adding value to people. Somehow. That means we either help them solve a problem, or seize an opportunity. Or one way or another we make them better off than they were. That makes us a hero to them in that area. So, as part of your ideal career, who are you the hero to? Who do you want to fly towards and 'save'?
What legacy will you leave? Do you want to leave something worthwile behind? What will people say about you when you're gone? Maybe that doesn't matter to you? Let's find out.
How to go through, edit and refine all you've done so far, so that you've hit the 'Self Reboot' button. Now you know who you are and what you can offer, we need to look at the future you're about to step into. That's the 'Future Reboot'.
A quick look at how things are different, the past, the present and the future, and the one thing we need to do above all others. An overview of the new rules of the game.
Time to put your new lens on and look into the future. Because that's where your ideal career exists.

How we work is changing fast. Stay too fixed to your current way, and your value might drop. The new world wants new behaviours from people. Here are 7 trends to consider realigning with and adding new value to a new world in a new way.
What to do with this information, and how to use it in the next section on your 'Ideas Reboot'.
A quick look at how this section works and how to drive it! Don't forget to download your 'Ideas Reboot' document below which contains the process we're about to work through.
How to use the venn diagram to start generating 'ideal career key ideas'. These are the 'seed ideas' that we'll use to generate actual career ideas.
You can do this manually with pen and paper, or you can use your Xmind Career Reboot Map to create the same sorting effect of a venn diagram. We'll show you how.
How to generate ideal career ideas from your 'ideal career key ideas'. This should be exciting!
Start pulling a short list of ideas together which we'll then go on to investigate. Which of the ideas shine the brightest for you? They're worth holding up against reality in the next phase, and then against your 'ideal career crtieria' from the 'Criteria Reboot' phase. You're almost there...
This isn't about your dream career. (That's for dreaming about). It's about your ideal career. Which means it'll work. It's real. This is where you must hold your ideas up against your original criteria from the 'Criteria Reboot'. This is where the rubber meets the road. It's where you've tested your sustainable paying market for the work you want to do. And you have enough confidence to take the leap into it. We'll guide you through..
So, if you can't decide on which ONE idea you'll run through the reality checker process, then you need Ritchie's spreadsheet! It'll help you take multiple potential career ideas, score them up against our criteria, and prioritise which to investigate first!
Here is our recommended approach or 'system' for running your ideal career ideas through the reality filter. You're going to need to research, read, learn, talk to the right people. And you'll score up those with the best fit. You're almost there.
This takes some effort. So best to break your plan down, schedule what you're doing when, and commit. It's the final leg. Follow our advice here to sprint through to the finish line.
Hopefully one of your ideas makes it through. If not, there are three logical options:
1) reduce your criteria so that more pass through (but you must remain realistic)
2) belief could be in your way. What if you are self-judging too critically? Or misinterpreting a reality? You can fix this by learning more about yourself, or the opportunity out there. More intel clears the mist. And your belief can go up.
3) go back to the 'Ideas Reboot', and reboot again. Generate more ideas. And run them through the 'Reality Reboot'. Repeat.
We'll discuss this and hopefully you undertand that this is normal. It's part of the process. Somewhere out there is your 'ideal career' and your goal is to find it, or get as close as possible. If you play with the three ideas above, you'll get there.
What now? What's next?

Somewhere out there is an ideal career for you. A very best way for you to earn the living you want, supporting the lifestyle you want, earning the money you want, and doing work that you both enjoy and excel at. Together, we're going to find it.
Your age doesn’t matter. And what you’ve done in the past doesn’t matter. What matters is that the world is changing fast, and the ways to earn a living are changing fast too. Your current way of looking at the world of work might be holding you back. It's time to refresh your perspective and understanding of yourself, your value, your strengths, your life ahead, and the new opportunities that need you and will reward you moving forwards. It's time to hit reboot.
"The Ultimate Career Reboot" enables you to put things on pause, and hit that reboot button. Instead of desperately jumping onto the next most convenient opportunity, which is what most people do, only to find out that things aren't really that different to what they were, you now have the opportunity to redesign and align yourself better, and with confidence.
This course starts with Mark and Ritchie helping you to get total clarity on what an ideal career would mean to you. We call that first phase the “Criteria Reboot”. And by clarifying the criteria you must hit (and knowing where to look for it - because you really don’t want to overlook anything important or it’ll cost you more later…) you essentially begin with the dartboard you’re aiming for. You're going to find a career that enables and delivers on that criteria.
Then we go on a deep dive into who you are right now and your potential value that you can provide the right people or organisations. It’s phase 2, the “Self Reboot” part of the course. You’ll learn loads about yourself that you didn’t even know, and better still you’ll learn how others see you too. You'll see where and how they see VALUE in you. Value that they'd pay for.
But we don't believe in a 'dream career' (that's just a dream) and we don't believe in the idea of just 'doing what you love' because you need to be realistic and earn a sustainable living. So you need phase 3, the 'Reality Reboot'. This is an eye-opener. We'll explore with you, and with the help of AI, the new opportunties and new 'waves' you can jump on out there to exchange your skills, strengths, talents and experience, with those who will pay you for them. You're about to see the new world very differently. And that's where your future income lies.
Once we're clear on your value, and what the world needs from you, we can begin to generate ideas. Lots of ideas. With the help again of AI, as well as your friends and family, and a new and improved version of the 'ikigai' model. You are going to get some eye-opening ideas that will be very exciting to explore further. That's with phase 4, the "Ideas Reboot". Then we must refine the list, explore the reality, and find your ideal path to transition into, realistically...
So we finish with the “Reality Reboot”. Your ideal career isn’t ideal unless it flies and you get paid. Consistently. To earn the living and lifestyle you defined in the “Criteria Reboot”. So in this part of the course you’re going on an investigative journey. You’ll dig as deep as you need to to get answers. To cut to the reality. To ensure you’re about to make a safe move that you’ll thrive in.
Once it passes your tests, you’ll know you’ve found the one. And getting into it will be much easier than you think. Because you’ll already be well aligned to it. It won’t take much to help employers or customers realise you’re in the right job, creating high value for them. And when they realise you're high value and aligned, they'll want to benefit from your services and market value.
This course will help you get there. It's the doorway to your perfect career change. Don't keep climbing the ladder if it's up against the wrong wall! Instead, hit pause. Join us on this path, and hit 'reboot'.
