Hi there, my name is Kritika, and for this course, I am your Instructor. Now together, you and I, are going to learn how to start your journey as AR/VR UX Designer.
Now in this course, we will learn everything to get you started with AR UX design, from fundamentals of AR VR, types of AR VR, UX processes for AR, Imagineering,30 seconds of storytelling, Presence, Agency and affordance, degree of control, the difference in designing for 2-D and 3-D experience, tools and devices, gaze gestures and voice control, user research and testing, challenges of 3-D interaction design, And at the last we will learn to make an AR Prototype using Adobe Photoshop and Adobe aero don’t worry if you don’t have any coding background. This course is for you who want to learn and create AR UX design projects come to hang out with me in this class.
Hey there, you made it in the course, welcome. In this lesson, we will learn the fundamentals of Augmented & Virtual Reality. It is very important to start with basics and some of the terminology that gets used in the course and in the industry, just so that you know what I'm talking about when I'm going through the course.
There are types of Augmented and Virtual Reality which is crucial to understand as going forward in this journey. Let us hop in and learn different forms of mixed reality.
Imagineering. what is Imagineering? Why should we study this you must have these questions in your mind but it is more important than designing for AR and VR. If you lack imagination You limit yourself. Let's see this example from Disney imagineers.
In this chapter, we will learn that what are the processes of UI UX when we are designing for AR and VR. The process we follow for designing UI UX for 2D interfaces is similar to when we are designing for AR and VR. There are a few changes and similarities in the process which we will go through in this lesson.
After the basics let us move to understand tools & devices. Now for operating AR VR software and development kit we need some kind of configuration, not all phones are compatible with AR VR. Let see what are the devices available and the configuration needed.
We all have heard that the first impression is the last impression do we actually think about it? The first 30 seconds in any movie to introduce the characters or for design is very important. If the user needs to use their brain then that experience is not good. First, 30 seconds is a nice place to start in terms of presence. Let's see why the first 30 seconds in any experience is so vital for engagement.
Where your users should see and how & what should you be placed nearer and farther to your users is very important as your experience and product are depended on it. Here the field of view comes into play. How much neck rotation is normal for the user and at what distance object seem unreasonable? Let us figure this all out in this lesson.
Presence is simply the state or fact of existing occurring or being present. Presence is a feeling in which you feel that you are actually present in a virtual experience. let us learn about this more, its importance and what impacts presence.
How much control should we give the user in any experience narrative? Do we give so much power that the user can change the narrative of a story or do we provide affordance and agency to the users so that the user knows where to go? The degree of control is one of the important lessons. We will also learn different examples of menus in this lesson.
There are many differences when designing for 2D & 3D experiences. When our medium changes, things change around and for it. When designing for a 3D immersive experience we should keep many things in mind to make the experience great. Let us learn what are those things in this lesson.
Gaze, Gestures and Voice control are some of the input methods. It is always better to consider multi-modal interfaces for a better experience as it promotes inclusivity you never know what could benefit your users, it is possible that your user cannot benefit from voice control, and then your user would want to have different input methods like gestures or gaze. Let us learn about this more in this lesson.
Before starting with 3D user interface we need to plan and research, so how do we get started with that we start by writing our user goals, their motivation and pain points. what is that your user is trying to achieve? who is my user? We start by creating personas so that we can always come back to them if we are stuck somewhere and think like our users. what is your heart metrics? this lesson includes all the information you will need to know to conduct user research and testing.
Now after learning about User Experience let us jump to designing User Interfaces. We will start like how we design for any 2D experience/Product Design first by ideating and then wireframing those ideas down. I will start with the basics to show how things will look and feel when we will make an "AR Debit Card" experience. Starting with a simple sketch on the iPad.
Great! we are almost done. Now, let us move to making our wireframes into Interfaces on Adobe Photoshop. I will try to move slowly and keep things simple so that it is easier to understand each and every step. For this lesson make sure you have Adobe Photoshop installed on your computer. You can work along with me or work at your pace.
Now that we are done with our interfaces let us jump to Adobe Aero and Modulate it there. Make sure you have installed Adobe Aero on your iPad or on your phone. This is the last lesson where we will modulate our interfaces in 3 dimensions that is x y z axis.
Challenges for AR VR interaction design. Health issues, Users can Get headaches, nausea and dizziness when HMDs or head-mounted displays are worn for more than 30 minutes. So it is recommended that the user should not wear any headset for more than 30 minutes. Users should take breaks and not wear them at long stretches. Let us see what the thing we should consider to provide users with a better experience.
Are you keen to get into the world of AR/VR UX Design, but you don't know where to start?
This Course will allow you to add AR/VR UX designer to your CV & start getting paid for new skills. AR/VR Designing is one of the highest-paying jobs.
Hi! My name is Kritika Sharma and I'm an AR/VR UX designer. I'm here to help to get started with AR/VR UX Design efficiently and comprehensively. This course offers a nice amalgamation of Practical and theoretical knowledge for designing high quality & functional prototypes with examples from SpaceX, Disney, Oculus, Microsoft and Apple.

Why choose this Course?
There is no other course available online that provides practical & theoretical knowledge on how to get started with UX Design for AR/VR, In this course, you will learn step by step process for making an Augmented Reality Prototype. My experience as an AR/VR UX Designer didn't start with a course, I had to dig a lot because the information was scattered so I don't want you to waste any more of your time and provide you with an organised lesson plan for everything you need to get started with. In this course, we are not going to rush and design a quick cool design but start with basics first. I am going to show you a real project I worked on and we will be making it again together.
You can work and create an AR prototype along with me or after the course, it is totally up to you. You can complete this course at your time and at your own pace. This will help develop your skills and will give you something for your portfolio.
It is now time to upgrade your skills.
