The course features lessons by Rustam Muzafarov, a renowned Uzbek ceramist and representative of the seventh generation of the Muzafarov family of Shakhrisabz ceramic artists. In his lessons, Rustam introduces students to the creation of ceramic dishes and household objects using traditional Shakhrisabz techniques combined with modern approaches to working with clay.
Rustam Muzafarov discovered the art of ceramics at an early age. As a member of one of the oldest ceramic dynasties in the region, he inherited the knowledge and experience of previous generations of craftsmen. Today, he continues to develop the family tradition, helping to preserve the distinctive Shakhrisabz style while introducing new ideas and contemporary elements.
Throughout the course, you will see the main stages of creating a ceramic object from raw clay to a finished decorative product. The lessons demonstrate practical work with the potter's wheel, shaping, decoration, preparation for painting, and ceramic painting techniques.
Rustam also discusses the characteristics of ceramics from different regions of Uzbekistan and other parts of the world, with particular attention to the Shakhrisabz tradition. This technique is considered one of the oldest ceramic traditions in Uzbekistan and has faced the risk of disappearing. Through his work, Rustam Muzafarov contributes to preserving and reviving this heritage.
The works of Rustam Muzafarov have been presented in Uzbekistan and internationally, including in the collections of the State Hermitage Museum and private collections.
This course is suitable for anyone interested in pottery, ceramics, traditional crafts, Uzbek culture, and handmade art. No advanced experience is required — the lessons provide an opportunity to observe an experienced master and explore the techniques behind traditional Shakhrisabz ceramics.
