Description
Turntablism 101 is a 17 hour DJ course taught by NYC's multi-award winning artist, Dj Raedawn, who is the inventor of skratch notation and BPM geometry. This course features a wide range of subjects such as Mixing, Skratching, Beat Juggling, Turntablism History, Music Business and Skratch notation. Recorded live in Cartagena, Colombia as a part of the US Department of State's Next Level international Hip-Hop education program, the course is dictated by Raedawn in the English language with Spanish interpreter in the classroom. Both beginners and advanced DJ's can learn a great deal from this course in that it offers a vast amount of knowledge about the art of Turntablism as well as skratch music literacy using the Turntablist Transcription Methodology. Supplemental course materials are provided in the form of unique downloads, rare links and animated tutorials. Students who take the course also have the option to take a set of multiple choice quizzes and practice tests. Welcome to the world of Turntablism!

Instructor
Dj Raedawn is an award winning turntablist & multimedia artist who has been djing since the mid 1990's. He has taught turntablism for over a decade in New York City as well as other institutions like the US Department of States Next Level program using a system of dj music notation that he invented called the Turntablist Transcription Methodology. At the turn of the millennium, Rae was given the honor of receiving the Dj Qbert Legendary Award for his pioneering scratch notation works that have been featured in international media outlets such as CNN, Blackbook Magazine as well as the widely popular CSI series. Outside the academic realm, Raedawn has released vinyl on experimental Hip-Hop and Electronic labels like Tigerbeat6 and has collaborated with artists like Antipop Consortium, Mos Def, Fat Lip, Lil B and TV on the Radio. In addition, Rae is also a filmmaker who has directed over 80 music videos for various avant-garde electronic labels like Warp
Records & Ed Banger Records. He's lectured and performed at numerous venues and institutions around the world such as the New Museum, the Montreaux Jazz festival, Central Park Summerstage, and Deitch Projects.
Dj Raedawn began creating art at the age of 4 playing the violin {Although he preferred Nintendo}. He later left his high school jazz ensemble to fully pursue his for passion for DJing, film making and electronic muisc composition. In 1999 He wrote the worlds first book on DJ notation called "The Fundamentals" followed by the book "TTM 1.0"; a unique calculus based notation system for dj music that has appeared in music courses around the world. He received a Bachelor of Sciences in Information Systems at the Leonord D. Stern School of Business at New York University along with an Associates in liberal arts. In 2012, He created TTM Academy, a free online DJ school that teaches mathematics, physics and history as it relates to art, music and technology.
