Welcome to this watercolour course for those students who have never picked up a brush! These step by step instructions will guide you to create your first painting by learning basic watercolour techniques!
When you are new to a new medium, it's great to have an explanation of the tools used: such as paper, brushes and watercolour paints! Pdf file is attached with the information
Before any project, we have to get our supplies organized so that we can start painting! Supply list provided at the end of Lecture 3 video
This lecture will review the techniques used in developing our 'Birch Trees Watercolour painting'. You can practise "Wet on Wet", "making shadows", Salt, and Splattering.
Since we don't have white paint, we will protect our trees using masking tape and masking fluid.
The fun begins... we will starting painting our wet on wet techniques on the background of the trees. Enjoy sprinkling salt and splattering the paints!
When our background is dry, the masking tape and masking fluid is removed and we can starting painting shadows our trees. Because we use non-staining or lift-able colours, we can easily lift and create new branches!
Time to add some dark colours on our birch trees creating unusual bark. Also we can add some dark contrast in our background to add more dimension to our trees!
In this final lecture, we see our final masterpiece "Birch trees". With step by step instructions, anyone can learn basic watercolour techniques and develop skills in future paintings. We reviewed tools of the trade such as watercolour paper, paints and brushes. This course was especially made for beginner students to encourage them to pick up a brush and have fun by 'doing'.
The Colour Wheel shows that a painting can be done with a limited colour range. Discover how easy it is to create secondary colours (orange, green, violet) from our primary colours (Red, Blue, Yellow).
Neutral or Grey can be easily made by using complementary colours.
In watercolours, painting in shadows adds dimension to your painting. An easy shadow mixture of adding Alizarin crimson with a grey mixture (Ultramarine blue and Burnt sienna) is great to use!
