  • Part two about Layers in Harmony13:23

In this lesson we will discuss the 3D layering system in Harmony. To show you what 3D is, we will also look at the free and open-source 3D software called Blender.

  • The Select tool part 112:18

We will go through the features of the Select tool (like skew, rotate and scale). We will discuss the lasso and the marque selection mode. And we will start with Snapping to Countour.

  • The Alignment Guides1:48

We will open up the tool panel for the Alignment Guides and go through all it's options.

  • The Select tool part 211:36

More about the snapping opions (snap and align) and selecting all drawings in a range defined by onion skinning

  • The Select tool part 37:09

The last settings in the select tool. The opions for mirroring, scaling and rotation. Also mentioning thet the pivot is temporary.

  • Contour Editor tool1:24

Use the contour editor to shape strokes by selecting control points, moving handles to adjust curvature, and editing handles together or separately.

  • Centerline Editor tool1:45

Explore the center line editor in Toon Boom Harmony 20 Essentials, enabling center line edits to mimic pencil strokes, with limitations on complex brush shapes and adjustable smoothing.

  • Smooth Editor tool2:35

Create and manage color pellets in Toon Boom Harmony to control character and scene colors, using plus signs to add, import, rename, or delete pellets, with tint and alpha options.

  • Vector and Raster images2:30

Compare vector and raster images, highlighting how vectors stay sharp when scaled while rasters pixelate and artifacts appear; learn to use high-resolution rasters or prefer vectors for large, crisp visuals.

  • Brush tool and Repaint Brush tool12:42
  • Pencil tool2:44
  • Stamp tool and create custom stamps5:34

Use the stamp tool to create custom stamps and snow or rain effects, reusing frames as references. Flip, scale, adjust spacing, and randomize size and angle; save brush presets.

  • Eraser tool1:32

Explore how to use the eraser and razor tools in Toon Boom Harmony to erase drawn lines, adjust brush size, and apply basic settings with smoothing for quick resets.

  • Text tool2:51

Explore the text tool in Toon Boom Harmony 20 Essentials overview, from choosing fonts and typing text to adjusting size, kerning, line spacing, alignment, and text color.

  • Bit more about Rectable, Elypse, Line and Polyline tools4:21

Learn to use the rectangle to draw squares, the ellipse tool to create circles with shift, and lines or polylines with click-drag actions, curvature handles, trimming, and snapping for drawings.

  • Paint, Paint Unpainted, Unpaint tools13:05

I will discuss how to paint your shapes. But also how to paint only the shapes that are not painted yet and how to remove paint. Then I will give you a tip on how to quickly paint all your drawings in your animation quickly (not doing it frame by frame).

  • Bonus: make 3D form 2D drawings41:40

In this lesson I will learn you a nifty trick to make real 3d out of our 2D drawings. It works with sequences of images (no not just 1 image). It uses a free external program and Harmony Essentials. Now you can create the 3D effect like in Harony premium, with just Harmony Essentials. It will also give you access to compositing tools (so you can do color grading, masking and all sorts of usefull postproduction. Though color grading will not be discussed in this lesson).

  • Bonus: using a node to fix multicolor drawings.4:12

In this lesson I will explain how to use an additional node to your node structure to get rid of unwanted colors. So you don't have to create a new single color layer in Harmony

  • Bonus: updated Harmony Game SDK working with Unity 20208:20

In this lesson you will learn how to use the update to the Harmony Game SDK asset. This asset does not work anymore with Unity 2019 and 2020. So I decided to hire a programmer to (partially) fix it. Now you can at least import your animations into Unity again. Toon Boom is working on a new import plugin, but they can't cay whan it will be released. So at this moment you just can use this update. You can find it in the resouces for this lesson.

  • Bonus: best apps for tablets in combination with Harmony18:45

I will go trhough the possibilities of using your Android tablet (or iOS) for creating 2d animations. And then importing them into Harmony. This way you can be freed from your desk and animate wherever you want!

Description

Harmony is professional software for creating 2D animations for films. But you can also create regular video's with it and publish them wherever you like. For those who have no big budget, but want to learn the basics of Harmony, there is Harmony Essentials. This program is a lot cheaper than the Advanced or the Pro version, but it lets you do lots of cool stuff. Especially in conjunction with some other free or inexpensive software.
So this course will not only cover Harmony, but some other programs as well. All to give you more freedom of choice.

If you are a good at drawing, why would you not enhance your skills and breathe life into your artwork? Animations are far more vivid than stills!

This course will help you getting started with Harmony Essentials. It will explain the tools. It will also explain animation and adding effects to your drawings. Those effects can be animated as well.

Bonus: I will learn you a trick how to get 4K video out of Harmony Essentials with the use of external software.

Bonus: I will learn you a trick how to create 3D animations out of 2D animations (create 3D models from 2D image sequences) with the use of free software

Bonus: An update to the existing Harmony Game SDK asset, found on the Unity Asset store. With a short video on how to use it. The default Harmony SDK Asset is obsolete. This file will let you use some of the original functionality (not everything).

Bonus: I will discuss several apps available on Android and iOS tablets, that can be used in conjunction with Harmony Essentials or Advanced, for desk free drawing!
