Hi!
In the next few lessons, we will use two important commands. Trim command and extend command. The problem you may face using them that the way they work has changed since the release autocad 2021. So, what we will do now ...
For users of recent releases, we will first explain how to change the command so that it works as version 2020 and earlier. Then we give some examples using autocad 2020 explaining the old way of the two commands. After that, we return to the new release explaining the new way of the two commands. This way everyone knows how to use the commands, whatever version he uses
So now if your version is newer than autocad 2020 use the system variable TRIMEXTENDMODE to make it work like 2020 and earlier versions…. Let’s see how
-Trim
-Show UCS Icon at origin
-Extend
- AutoCAD OPtions.
- Change color theme.
- Change background color of 2D model space.
- Circle (center point + radius).
- REgenerate model.
- Circle (center point + diameter).
- Move.
- COpy.

- TRim (select all).
- Change layer color.
- Layer properties manager dialogue box.
- Add new layer.
- Accept default name or change it.
- Load line types.
- Attach line type to a layer.
- Set your new layer as a current layer.
- Stretch line using grips only.
- Change line weight of layer.
- Show / Hide line weight toggle.
- Rename layer.
- Arc (Center, Start, End.)
- Change layer of a drawn object.

Convert Trim to Extend
extend while you are still in trim command
trim while you are still in extend command
use trim or extend without selecting cutting edges or boundary edges(select all)
· What is the fillet.
· Fillet command.
· Never forget to read fillet settings before applying the command.
· Change fillet radius.
· Multiple option in the command.
locate fillet position using selection points.
Draw fillets with different radii using only one fillet command.
Trim doesn't only trim it extends also
What does No Trim option do in fillet command

What is chamfer distance.

· Effect of selection point
· Multiple option in chamfer command
· Use shift with chamfer command
· Chamfer command is used to connect two lines (no circles or arcs)
· Chamfer command is used to connect two lines
· Chamfer by distance and angle
· Chamfer mEthod
Hi
In this lecture we will discuss few notes about chamfer command
First activate chamfer command
Write cha … press spacebar or enter
Now dist1 is 20 and dist2 is 10
So, if you select horizontal line in the right side of it and select vertical line in the upward side of it
The chamfer line is drawn between right and upward sides
Undo
activate chamfer command again
If you select left part and downward part of lines
The chamfer line is drawn between left and downward sides
activate chamfer command again
write m and press spacebar or enter to activate multiple option …
while you selecting lines press shift to turn distance to zero
you can use this method to connect lines as I do now
…..
…..
…..
Let’s discuss another note
Chamfer command is used to connect two lines
If you activate the command and select circle or arc
Autocad tells you that
Chamfer requires 2 lines (not arc segments).
Another note
Some times in drawings chamfer is given by distance and angle
Like this chamfer of distance 50 and angle 30
To draw that chamfer
Activate chamfer command
Write A and press spacebar to activate angle option
Autocad asks you to
Specify chamfer length on the first line
Write 50 and press spacebar
Autocad asks you to
Specify chamfer angle from the first line
Write 30 and press spacebar
Select first the line you want with distance 50
Then select the second line
…
…
Another note
If you activate chamfer command and the active method is distance and angle
If you activate distance option now you should enter dist1 and dist2
But if you just want to change the method to the last saved distance
Just write E to activate method option and select the method you want
…
…
Thank you
HI
In a previous lesson
I asked student’s using autocad release newer than 2020
to turn TRIMEXTENDMODE system variable to zero
to learn how the commands trim and extend works in release 2020 and older releases.
In this lesson
we are going to turn this system variable to 1
to learn how the two commands works in newer releases.
So, if your release is newer than 2020
let’s see how to turn this system variable to 1
· What is standard mode and quick mode of trim and extend commands
· You don’t have to select cutting edge first like in standard mode
· Now trim erases objects
· Selecting objects trims it to the nearest intersection points
· Curved fence line selection
· Straight fence line selection
· YOU have the option to select cutting edges if you want
Hi
Some quick review
The way trim and extend commands work in version 2020 and previous versions is called now STANDARD mode
And The way they work since version 2021 is called now QUICK mode
In previous lessons we learned how to switch AutoCAD between the two modes using system variable TRIMEXTENDMODE
If you turn this system variable into zero you are in standard mode. If you turn it into 1 you are in quick mode
We discuss some examples using standard mode to learn how the commands work in it
In this lesson… we will learn how trim command works in quick mode
So, let’s go to AutoCAD
In AutoCAD if we draw some circles and lines
Activate trim command
Write tr and press spacebar or enter
First …. check the mode is quick
First difference you notice…
AutoCAD asks you to select objects to trim first
You don’t have to select cutting edge first … like in standard mode
Second difference…
If you select an object doesn’t intersect with any other object or intersects at its end points…. Trim command will erase it….that wasn’t happening in standard mode.
Undo… activate trim command again
If you select any object intersects with other objects
AutoCAD trims it to the nearest intersection points
Undo… activate trim command again
If you left click any where on the screen and hold the mouse button down moving the mouse across the screen…
You are drawing a curved fence line that selects any object it passes through to be trimmed
Undo… activate trim command again
If you left click any where on the screen without holding the mouse button down and left click any other where in the screen …
You are drawing a straight fence line that selects any object it passes through to be trimmed
Undo… activate trim command again
You have the option to select cutting edges if you want
To activate cutting edges option…
Click it in command line or just write t and press spacebar or enter
AutoCAD asks you to select cutting edges
Select the objects you want to work as cutting edges
To end selection press spacebar or enter or right click the mouse
Then select the objects you want to be trimmed
Thank you
· You don’t have to select boundary edge first like in standard mode
· Effect of Selection point of objects
· Straight fence line selection
· Curved fence line selection
· YOU have the option to select Boundary edges if you want
· Make AutoCAD repeat commands automatically
· Get points directly by tracking
Hi
In this lesson…
We will draw This simple drawing again
But in a different way
To learn some new commands
The first new thing we will learn is
How to make AutoCAD repeat commands automatically
With out the need to repeat them by ourselves
Assume we want AutoCAD to repeat the command circle
So, we use the command multiple
Just write mu
And select multiple from the menu
AutoCAD asks you to …..Enter command name to repeat
Write c and press spacebar
AutoCAD keeps repeating circle command and will not stop tell you press scape
The second new thing we will learn
Is how to make AutoCAD track points across the screen
For example
To draw this drawing
We can make AutoCAD track points and draw the circles in its right location at first place
Using track option
To understand what I mean
Let’s start drawing
Activate multiple command
Write c then press spacebar to repeat circle command
Draw first circle at any point on the screen
To locate second circle… center … use track option
To activate track option, write tk and press spacebar
AutoCAD asks you for …… First tracking point
Click in the center of first circle and move the mouse in the direction you want
Write 150 and press spacebar
AutoCAD asks you for … Next point ……to keep tracking
To finish tracking press spacebar then enter the radius of 125 and press spacebar
Repeat the tracking option to draw the third circle
Press scape to finish multiple command
Trim the extra parts to finish drawing
Thank you
