Welcome to the 3 fundamental keys to perfect picking course.
Whether you are using alternate pick, economy picking or many other combination, you will always still be using up and down strokes. The quality of your playing will depend on the quality of these strokes.
What you will discover in this course is that the quality of your playing and the precision of your picking do not depend on how many songs you can play or licks or even you level. but rather on quality of your fundamental technique and your control over these musical/technical elements.
You will also realize that these elements can be applied and master independently and rather quickly.
In this First video I'm going to introduce you to:
The 3 main types of picks and how each affects the attack and hence your playing. This will help you make a better choice when it comes to picking a pick and optimize your picking technique.
There is so many different types and shapes of picks out there, and you don't have to own each of them. There is 2 main aspects about a pick that will affect you attack and tone.
Material will of course affect your tone as well but that's to your own preferences. In general the harder the material the brighter the tone.
I will also talk about thick picks only because thin picks have no edges and often have a rounded tip to avoid getting a very thin attack.
And I recommend you use a relatively thick pick (1.10 - 2.00 mm) as it will follow the motion of your hands and won't have flex than delays attack and make it harder to balance.
Our concern is the point of the pick (the tip) and the 3 main categories that picks usually have are:
Picks with pointy tips
Are the hardest to play but have a fastest attack and bight attack. They demand more accuracy and control to use the tip only.
Picks with big bevel and rounded tip
These picks has slightly delayed attack, because the pick has to hit the string and slide on the edge before to leave the string.
But they are less demanding as the rounded edges will compensate for less tip precision.
Picks with straight edges (no bevel) and a slightly rounded tip.
