The course deals with how God values time. History is important to us because it is the collective experience of mankind. While we may learn from our experience what succeeds and what fails, we can also benefit from the experience of others. God also commands us to set up monuments to remind us of important events and to celebrate them. It helps us remember them, and gives us an opportunity to explain them to our children so they will learn from them. The future is also important for it is the result of what we do today. But time and experience should bring not only knowledge, but wisdom which is an understanding of how to deal with facts wisely.
It also deals with how truth is important. We cannot learn from the past, if we don’t know what really happened and how can we deal with the world around us if we don’t know what is going on. Jesus said we would know the truth and it would set us free.
God also values education for it is the transmission of the lessons of the past and our collective understanding to those around us and all who will follow us. However, our understanding of the need for education has changed over time and how we administer education has a big effect on the world around us.
