Learn to form and smoothly transition between C major, A minor, E minor, and G major chords, with clean open strings and a simple quarter-note down-stroke strumming.
Lecture demonstrates D minor chord (high e string first fret, g string second fret, b string third fret) and its place in C major scale with F major.
Learn the easy F major chord using the forefinger on the first fret to cover the top strings, then move to C major and D minor with a backing track.
Master the Phoebe trick for chord changes by memorizing shapes and moving your fingers instinctively between C major, E minor, G major, and A minor to achieve smooth, musical transitions.
Explains how one four five progressions in any key use C major with C, F, and G, and notes the relative minor (six) and e minor (three) with G resolving.
Learn to play a verse melody over chord progressions using alternate picking and small wrist motions, combining fretted notes with open strings while muting unwanted strings for a clean tone.
Move the melody five frets up on one string for a mellower tone, fretting notes instead of open strings; start on the C note on the G string with pinkie.
Practice the same melody an octave higher, comparing brighter open-string tones with mellower tones on lower strings, while memorizing notes across the fretboard and shaping dynamics with picking.
Practice the chorus melody over d minor, f, and c. Learn muting techniques to keep the e string silent while fretting notes, and practice along to the backing track.
Discover how to modify major and minor triads with sus2, sus4, add9, add6, and major seventh to deepen chords and enrich your acoustic guitar playing.
Master F barre chord by barring six strings with the forefinger at first fret; move the shape up the neck for G, A, C, and D using the root note.
explore practical semitones and whole tones on guitar by fretting the c major and the relative minor scale, highlighting interval patterns and melodies by ear.
Learn to map chord shapes across the fretboard using root notes on lower strings, manage open-string dissonance, and use barcodes and capos for clean fretting across keys.

Explore the basics of guitar-related music theory by learning notes, scales, semitones, and key concepts. Discover major and minor scales, relative minor, chords, and how sharps and flats shape melodies.
Discover how chords are built from triads, using root, third, and fifth, and how major and minor qualities shape emotions on guitar across the fretboard.
Explore how triads from root, third, and fifth form chords, and how major and minor tones shape guitar sound and emotion in progressions.
Blend new musical skills and theory to fuel creativity, even for beginners, and apply randomness by twisting a three-chord progression.
Download mp3 files for 'the long road,' a picking piece in G major introducing B minor and D major, with a 96 bpm backing track to practice chords and strumming.
Start by picking softly to develop control, then add dynamics. Practice alternate picking on the d, g, and b strings with small pick movements, starting slow and increasing tempo.
Add fretted notes to e minor, c major, and a minor, move from g major with a clean, small-picking pattern, and practice smooth transitions to avoid buzzing.
Learn to add dynamics to guitar picking by alternating down-up strokes and varying emphasis on notes, while exploring down-stroke only picking for lead passages.
Master the B minor picking pattern in the G major scale, including a two-fret bar option, then transition to open G and D with expressive dynamics.
Learn core strumming concepts for rhythm guitar: vary patterns with tempo, emphasize lower on-beat notes and higher-string accents, and incorporate downstrokes, upstrokes, and sixteenth-note fills.
Learn to change chords smoothly while strumming by leaving space on beats for transitions, starting with G major and E minor, using simple down-stroke patterns before exploring complex strums.
Explore dynamic strumming for beginners by using soft finger attacks, selective bass notes, and volume swells to shape phrases, while keeping the right hand moving to lock rhythm and timing.

Are you inspired to pick up the guitar, but can't find the right lessons or structure?
Have you tried some basics but struggle to figure out where to go next?
This course is for you! Welcome to The Acoustic Guitar Essentials - Lessons for Beginners.
The guitar is an expressive and versatile instrument that has led popular music for 100 years - from jazz to blues to rock n roll to singer songwriter - the list goes on. I’ve been playing live and in the studio for over 15 years and I still get inspired every time I pick it up. I want you to feel the same way.
Many beginner guitarists hit a wall after a short time of learning, either because of learning out of context - static scales, metronomes, isolated chord patterns - or they learn a handful of popular songs or riffs, and get stuck there after the final tutorial. I know, because it happened to me too.
Don’t let this be you!
My goal is to give you the kickstart that will give you a foundation that you can build upon under your own steam, long after you've finished watching the videos.
We will use Point of View camera angles so you see the videos from the same perspective as you see your guitar.
